Hey everyone so after many many hours and long long nights of researching all over the place I was able to put together a few resources for everyone looking at doing an SMF (single mass flywheel) conversion to get away from the dreaded stock DMF (dual mass flywheel).

Here are some options to choose from, for all of those guys having issues finding quality conversion kits.

The one everybody knows already VALEO...

Valeo kit4p 835050

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/valeo/1110352

The 835050 kit has superseded the older Valeo kits under part numbers 835010,835058,835059,835065. So hypothetically speaking if you come across any of these 5 Valeo part #'s they will all work for the same vehicles just the 050 version being the newest and probably the "most improved" version.

Next one MAPCO 10789 Clutch Kit

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/mapco/13835304

From what I can tell MAPCO is another reputable company and they are based in Germany, not sure how popular they are over there across the channel but it's considered a good brand over here. Similar to the Valeo kit it is meant to convert the stock DMF to an SMF.

So the Next and Last is probably my favorite of the bunch so far, I will have to do more research before pulling the trigger but the next 2 go hand in hand.

BLUEPRINT Clutch Kit ADV183071

&

KM Germany Clutch Kit 069 1553

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/blue-print/13914551

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/km-germany/13203507

After further research, it turns out BLUEPRINT is actually under the company KM Germany along with SWAG and FEBI Bilstein... This makes up the "BilsteinGroup" a small passage from there website states...

Brand consolidation: Bilstein group strengthens clutch competence

Kary + Mangler GmbH including its clutch brand KM was taken over last year and successfully integrated into the organization of the globally operating Bilstein group. The KM clutch range has been transferred to the product brands Febi (for commercial vehicles) and Blue Print (for passenger cars).

So While researching, I was able to find some good sources and I figured I might as well drop there in here for the next guys looking around.

MAPCO's Website has a nice little parts search tool.

https://www.mapco.com/en/carparts/39762/mapco-10789-clutch-kit/

KM/Bilstein groups website where you can read all about the merge of the companies and do further research yourself into parts you may need.

https://www.km-auto-technik.de/index-en.html

As for Valeo, there are a lot of cool resources...

PDF of all their clutch kits by part number and what cars they correspond to...

http://www.valeo-service.com/data/master/webfile/200254762507EC443D43F1.pdf?rnd=431

Valeo's main website

https://www.valeo.com/en/trust-the-transmission-systems-specialist/

Here is something cool, Valeo's service website which includes how-to guides for fitment, huge online parts catalog, online training and diagnostics help, and a technical bulletin.

https://www.valeoservice.com/en-com

Lastly also from Valeo is there massive online parts catalog which I really really like I recommend taking a look at it.

I know this is a lot of info to read but bear with me. Anyone who has been searching for an "OEM" rated DMF to SMF conversion for the 02m 6-speed transmission has probably had a difficult ass time. Many people might say oh just go with A G60 flywheel and have it milled down to the weight you want... problem is the g60 doesn't work for the 6 speed because it requires a larger 240mm size when the G60 is 228mm. For me, the goal isn't to find a super lightweight flywheel because everyone knows the 02m is prone to flywheel chatter when you go too light. of course, i would like to save some rotating mass but the main goal for me is durability so my flywheel doesn't grenade when I am at track days, or during the heavily spirited driving we do here in Germany. That being said the Valeo kit states its 18kg... and the only information I can find on the OEM DMF and clutch setup brings me to 17kg... to me this sounds a bit off I would think some information is being left out here. Therefore tomorrow morning I will be calling Valeo, Mapco, and KM/BluePrint, to get the exact weights of the kits and maybe some other information like maximum recommended torque rating, etc.

The next step is to also try to find the weight of the OEM clutch and flywheel assembly including the central slave cylinder and bolts.

For the moment I am leaning more to buying the KM/Blueprint because of the fact I've had great results using Bilstein products on a range of vehicles, on and off-road uses. But I will wait to pull the trigger for 2 weeks or so after hopefully a discussion on here with fellow members, conversations with each company, and dropping my tranny out to weigh the stock parts when I can't find a solid source.

What do you guys think? If anyone else has any other sources just drop it below, I really had a hard time finding information for the 6 speed 02m I was even lurking all over other the threads like vortex, etc, I figured when I found it I should share it with the community so its easier for the next bloke down the road.

I hope this helps someone and if I've posted it in the wrong section or if I can improve on anything please don't hesitate to let me know! No filters necessary, I won't get butt hurt promise

Blueprint imo looks the better option. What clutch option are you going for?

Just going to stick with what Blueprint has on the conversion kit, even at stage 2 with 280lb/ft max I don't think it will cause any issues. the diesels use the same clutches and they are capable of a lot more torque.

I heard mixing different clutches with flywheel conversion kits can cause issues... so for now I'll stick with the same manufacturer.

I will call them tomorrow and try to get some maximum rating information. :cheeky:

Just an update i called every manufacture at their UK and German corresponding tech support lines. (got to test out my german skills)

I got the same information from all 4 companies

Valeo 835050- This is infact the most updated kit and the one everyone should be going for from this date onward. Luckily its also cheaper for some reason MSRP than the older kits.
18kg total kit weight (including hardware)
Steel Flywheel
Organic disc clutch
Same maximum torque as the stock clutch.

MAPCO 10789 (Local to Germany) :cop:
18kg total kit weight (including hardware)
Steel Flywheel
Organic disc clutch
Same maximum torque as the stock clutch.

BILSTEIN GROUP

Blueprint Clutch Kit ADV183071 & KM Germany Clutch Kit 069 1553

It is confirmed that although they have different part numbers it is exactly the same clutch kit on the internal company system. If you search around via part numbers you will find that the KM part number will eventually correlate back to the blueprint part number ADV183071. So that being said i've seen the KM Germany kit going for a few pennies less (10 or 20 pounds actually).

18kg total kit weight (including hardware)
Steel Flywheel
Organic disc clutch
Same maximum torque as the stock clutch.

If you're wondering what the maximum torque rating on the OEM clutch is... the PD150 diesels use the same clutch. The pd150s come in stock at 240tq and with a remap around 300-320tq all day long. So for piece of mind I would say 300-320 would be no issue as long as you have a decent torque curve and not a clutch shredding spike and die down low in the rpm range. Also at those torque levels you should start worrying about your rods letting go before your SMF clutch does... the power figures of a Leon Cupra R stage 2 stock k04 is around 285 hp and 300-330tq. So its safe to say if you're staying stage 2 and not upgrading your engine... then you'll be just fine with these SMF conversions. (As long as you drive properly). :harhar:

After all the digging and information compiling talking with the companies etc. I've decided I will go with the Bilstein group Blueprint clutch kit as I've had great experiences with Bilstein products and customer support. But to each his own, I just wanted to drop this information bomb to help grow the archives here for everyone.:blahblah::blahblah::blahblah:

Hey dude.

About to embark on the smf route. How did you get on with your kit? Are you happy with the result?

Cheers

Just to add about stock clutch...it can really take it in a TDI. Pd150 mapped aggressively had no issues with stock clutch for at least 2k and I beat the hell out of it...not once did it slip even with such an aggressive punch that they have. The clutch I put in my old 1.8t had a beating and a half for 10k and never slipped but I only ever launched the 1.8t a couple of times.

Hey brotha, I haven't installed it on my car yet. It goes in weekend of the 22nd. Big install day of new tranny.

My friend has the Bilstein/Blueprint one in his S3 and I drove it. He put the flywheel and clutch on a balancing machine and it came out perfect. The chatter isn't bad at all to be honest. I think most of the chatter problems come with the lightweight flywheel setups. No slips or anything. He has done 10k kms and track driving as well.

He's 290hp 330tq

Later on when the 500hp engine goes in I'll be upgrading to different clutch pad so that'll be interesting staying with the same SMF.

Long ramble on and on but from my experience I can only recommend thumbs up!

Just popped the blueprint part number onto Google and found the cheapest source. Here in Germany at the time it was Check24.de

As long as its brand new with part number there are no issues. It's about 250 euros now which is a great price!

Sorry for bumping an old thread but is quite curious how the blueprint turned out? Thinking of the kit myself and aiming for 400 hp. Also if the flywheel was heavy?
