Got the LCR Custom-Code

So,

I've been fighting the urge to Remap the car since i bought it 6 months ago. I have been disappointed with the power delivery for a while now, coming from high output N/A cars I’ve always felt that the LCR should give more higher up the rev range, and whilst i’m impressed with the torque shove at 3K I like to rev my cars. The LCR can feel like a bit of a Diesel at times !!

After reading advice almost exclusively from this fine website I managed to convince myself that Custom-Code was the way forward. I had been a passenger in a REVO car and found that this seemed to just enhance the standard way in which the power was delivered. Custom-Code has been getting consistently good write ups about how it alters the power delivery, and thus I decided to give it a go.

After trying to get the code done locally (Berks area) I spoke to Leigh at JBS who suggested that I should come and get it done with them. After offering me a deal I couldn’t resist I set of on the 320 Mile round trip. The fitment of the Forge 007P / Green Filter and Custom-Code Ph1 only took around an hour, through which i enjoyed JBS hospitality (Tea/Mags/PS2).

Custom-Code has transformed my LCR. It was quite damp as I left the charming town of Chesterfield and wanting to escape as quickly as I could discovered my LCR now delivers it’s power in an amazing fashion, Instead of a bit of a shove and then nothing…. She now pulls like a train all the way to the limited. I wasn’t until I lost traction in 3rd that I knew just how much more power I had under the right foot.

In conclusion, I would get my car mapped with Custom-code, EVEN if it didn’t give extra power. It’s the smoother delivery that really sells this map. If you want to get this done, take a day off and go and see them at JBS. They really know there stuff and are all round nice people !

Hi Rob

Thanks for the great write up.

Told you it would be a worthwhile trip.

Hope the drive back down south was better than the drive up

If there is ever anything else you need just give us a call.

That sounds much more like the power delivery I'm after. I've said ever since buying the car that I'd like to make more use of the higher end of the rev range, so if CC achieves this then that's sounding very tempting.

what was wrong with the local CC dealer then or did you get an offer you could'nt refuse direct ?

I couldn't get hold of my local dealers at the time, and i wanted to get the code done before i talked myself out of getting it done, or spent the money. JBS offered me a deal which made it worth while going on a 320 mile round trip, and i liked the idea of having the code done there.

Seriously though i was expecting to get flammed for saying the LCR has power delivery like a diesel !!

Re-mapping

This thread is quite close to my heart as I've been toying with the idea of re-mapping my LCR 225 since I got it 10 months ago.

I considered REVO, but on Friday afternoon, took a trip to Jabba near Peterborough and had a chat and look round their workshop.
For around £450 it seems they will do a custom re-map and I can expect anything from 260 to 275bhp from it when its done. (My car is totally standard.)

So maybe it was sales talk - I don't know for sure, but they tell me I can have the car set up how I like it.
E.g. Lots of low rev torque and a super smooth delivery, or go for lots of extra kick at high revs and a higher top speed.
Whatever I'm after really.

Suppose what I want is more acceleration between 40 and 80 mph in say, 4th and 5th, as I do a lot of A and B road driving at high speed and always have to slow down and speed up continuously as traffic dictates.

So my question is two fold, will a re-map really do this for me (will it really be worth all that cash) and also are there any mods that might help me in conjunction with the re-map? I don't want to spend a fortune, but any cheap(ish) mods out there?
(Suppose that using 99 ron in conjunction with new custom code could help too?)

So far I've been advised a new dump valve may improve response and I keep hearing about induction/filters? I guess it will only cost about £350 or so to add these before I get it re-tuned, but are they really worth it? Or should I just stick to a custom remap alone? Help!!

Rick - A new DV is essential IMO, as the standard one is prone to failure. It wont make any difference in terms of performance, but given time the standard one will fail, so it's worth doing. Other than that, there are no essential mods, but some that are worth doing. A new panel filter, for instance, is definitely worth while. Anything more than that is optional.

As for the map - If it's a stage one map to a standard car, it will not be a totally custom map. It's marketing talk. Basically, it's a generic map that they can fine tune to your car to suit your needs to a certain extent. Do be fooled into thinking this is going to give you more power than an off the shelf map, as it wont, but the power delivery may suit your needs more. There are other similar solutions though, such as Revo with an SPS device or APR with VTune. And realistically, regardless of which map you go for, 260bhp is the sort of figure you'll end up with. If you get much more than that, it will be down to one of two things... a miracle... or an optimistic rolling road ;)

i'm unsure on what APS are using, but i've read good reviews.

AMD before the takeover was highly recommended, but i've heard a few reviews with people having had AMD and then tried the above 3 i mentioned and said they felt stronger.

think at the time it will depend on price for me

no mate i think hes paying the higher amount for custom not generic. they offer both.

mike will be able to make the maps delivery as you want it.

Custom Code or Jabba gets my vote, had experiences with all maps, and find these two the best. Power delivery is amazing compared to others.

Hi Everyone

Thanks for all the comments about Custom-Code.

We seem to be getting good write-ups all over the forums.

If anyone would like any information about Custom-Code or any other products feel free to ask.
