So, a year after buying my Cupra TDi and sticking some Falkens on the front, it comes time to replace my other two tyres (Dunlop Sport Maxx).

Thinking I'd probably be plumping for the cheaper Falkens again off I went to look at mytyres.co.uk only to find the price difference between Falkens and Goodyears has narrowed from ~£20 a tyre, to a few pence!

I did some reading, some reviews etc and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics were going to be the ones.

Ordered, delivered, fitted.

Now when I changed the fronts last time from Dunlops to Falkens the difference was hardly noticable other than I felt there was less grip.

With these though...

Immediate difference, just reversing out of the parking space, was how much easier it is to turn the steering wheel!
Second thing to notice, driving down the road, was how much less road noise there is to he heard. They really are so much quieter wether on cobbles, tarmac, 20mph or 80mph.
Then I find I no longer feel every single road bump, the ride is much smoother.
Finally the grip, now I know I've only done around 100 miles so far round town and a 60mile country drive, but their grip is a vast improvement, stick like glue on the hot summer tarmac but not really pushed them in the wet yet.

Overall, worth every penny. I notice the wear tating is 240 as opposed to the Falkens and Dunlops 260, so obviously they won't last as long, but still, I couldn't complain.

I know you get what you pay for but my tyres have the Falkens at just over £90. That's nearly £30 more than Camskill per tyre. So £120 more per 4. I like the Falkens and think they're pretty good even in the wet. I will try the F1's one day but for now the Falkens are good enough and I will be getting another set next time around.

The F1s are a great tyre with superb rolling characteristics and excellent grip - but you never get anything for free! I've fitted them to my TT and they are very good, but they are wearing quickly. I had a similar experience with Pirelli P Zeros that didn't last from one MOT to the next - only 12k miles compared with a good 20k miles I got out of the Yokohamas I'd had on previously.

The F1s seem to be lasting better than those, but again I don't think I will get as much milage out of them as I did with the Yokohamas or the original Michelin Pilot Sports. Obviously the tyres will perform differently on the front wheel drive Cupras than they do on my TT so it's difficult to make direct comparisons but after experimenting with the whole range of tyres that are regularly recommended for my car I think I'd settle on the Michelins as the best option - not surprisingly the tyres originally fitted by Audi. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they also the standard tyre for the Leon Cupra?

From my experience I guess the answer is that the manufacturers know what they are talking about when they spec a tyre for their cars, so if you can afford them maybe you are best sticking with what Seat originally fit. It may cost that little bit more on initial outlay but work out cheaper in the long run.

That said, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the F1s - they're great around those corners!

I've no idea what mine came fitted with originally, but when I got it there were 4 Dunlop Sport Maxx on there.

The Falkens are about half worn in a year, not done more than 8k miles either.

Not answering your question sorry as I run Yoko's (seem to last forever!) but the £60 F1 GS-D3's seem very cheap for F1's...

I would never skimp on tyres if I could help it imo.

Sorry mate but are you sure thats per tyre price as that is £40 quid more than what I pay for Michelin pilot sport 2's. Goodyears have always been cheaper than Michelin's. Oh just to let you all know there is a rumour that the price of tyres are going up again, considering all tyres went up 7% in April.

Mease you were looking at the wrong tyre's the price you put up for £160 are for Bmw 3 series and as they are runflat tyre's. That's why they're pricey. The one's you need to look at are XL they are £107.

I considered trading the LCR for an FR TDI last week... I just couldn't do it. I won't give in to the prices at the pumps government, you hear me!

Getting confused..
....what rims are you all on? I'll double check my handbook for my wheel size. My wheels are the std spoked alloys - current tyres are Michelin Primacy HP's 205/55/16
