Hi all!

I'm going to have a look at my first LCR tommorow and was wondering if there are anything that I should be checking for. The car is 54 (2005) plate, FSH, 2owners and 30k. It being advertised at a independant delear for £8999. What kind of price should I be aiming for?

hi there

most important thing is having a full service history, regular oil changes, paperwork for MOT's etc

the usual starting up the engine and checking the blue smoke etc

stay away from dealers too, they always rip you off. You could get much better examples on here which will be mint and very well looked after from a few members on here

like a couple of grand cheaper!!

8999 is top price for that car.

as said fsh with receipts for all work done is a must

2005 is due cambelt soon, 4 years or 60k. good mileage for the age.

look for leaky door seals(water in footwells)
check all pipework in engine bay, take the engine cover off and check pipe from top of rocker cover thast comes out the right hand side ( crankshaft breather) they split easily

coilpacks fail on these cars, so check general running state on this.

usuals, suspension, brakes etc etc.

maybe pay a little over book price for a warranty.

according to this its 500 quid overpriced

maybe push for cambelt service included in price as this will set you back £400 ish anyway, water pump included, change water pump to metal impeller type.

but as said, look on here for well looked after examples.

Thanks for the replies so far. Thought it was slightly overpriced but I'm in Aberdeen and car prices here are generally higher but I'll still aim for £8500 depending on condition of course. As its a small independant dealer, think I'll push to knock more off the price and get the cambelt done at seat. Will let you know how i get on.

Just got back from looking at the LCR. Condition of the car was quite good considering the age. Paintwork looked quite good, only one major scratch around 3inches long on one of the doors which has been touched up, otherwise generally good. The paint caliper paint has started to peel, but i guess thats to be expected?? calipers dont look bad but you can see the peeling up close.

There was a service history, but it did say its a 'duplicate' seat dealer book, although its been fully stamped up by seat. Not sure if that was a good thing?? it did have a receipt from the last service a few months back from seat.

It drove pretty well though and I'm impressed with the speed. But this was the first one I drove and I would prefer trying a few others.

The dealer wont budge on the price although he give me a very good trade in price for my on car (which is a bit of a heap just now), and he's also thrown in 6months tax and 6 months warranty (independent and non-seat so i dont know the successes of these claims).

sorry, gary_cupra, but i'm looking for a slightly newer one with less mileage and unmodified.

I'm still undecided though, this LCR looks like a good example but is also the first one I've looked at so maybe wait for now and check out other ones. But they do seem rarer now, especially up this end of the country. I spoke to the local seat dealer and they said they only had 2-3 LCR's come through in the past 2 years.

Going to be looking at another LCR this week. Its a grey one, 55plate with 21K miles and its advertised for £9500 at a dealer. If its in good condition, what price should I be aiming for? I've checked car valuations sites (for dealer prices) and they are varying from £8900 to £9800:blink:

At the end of the day, you pay what you're willing to pay for the car. The book value is always a lot less than people try to sell the cars for.
If the car is up for £9500, and book value is £8900-9800, then aim to push down to as close to £8900 as possible!
One things for sure, I doubt the car is worth £9800 - it's 4yrs old, and this is a What-car basic evaluation, on the stats you've given:

Dealer £8,495
Private £7,705
Part exchange £7,220
Trade £6,945
Cost new £18,055

what you should pay is what you feel comfortable with. A car is worth what someone will pay, i would go private and save some pennies. if you buy a car from a member on here you can search its history fairly comprehensibly through looking at all their posts.

I bought my LCR from the Seat dealer website... very often the car appears on there and not on Autotrader.

Mine was from a Seat dealer up near manchester. Had 33k on the clock, 54 plate, immaculate, 12 months tax and warranty for 8k!!! Two days after i bought mine one appeared on the Seat site with 15k on the clock for £500 more couldnt believe it... so give it ago!!!

You never know what you might find!!!
