Silly me has gone 300miles over my service mileage, no service light has come on though. Problem is car is booked in on the 5th September, and between them I drive 40miles a day to work and back, and also wanting to get down to Santa Pod on the 3rd! How far over can I go with the mileage?

doesnt matter that much unless its one like the timing belt change but if its just oil and filters a few more miles wont matter, never bothered me anyway, currently 70,320 and not been for 70k yet myself!:D

I think the sevice light only comes on from when it was last reset, so if you reset it at say 10256 then it wont come on till 20256! I think thats how it works  as mine usually comes on once its been in for service so I end up reseting it myself

yes i agree but in the service literature it says rest service indicator so in theory ask why its not been done lol and deman 1mins labour charge back! mine has never come on with my car its done 12.5k and got it with 1.6k on the clock so dont know why its not come up, should have if its not been touched from new so should have come up at 10k and if it was reset when it was last serviced it still not shown up!

The service light is only for variable servicing intervals using long life oil etc. Our cars are set up for fixed servcing so should be done by the book... 1yr/10k

Theyre only there if you wanna convert the car for variable servicing or the fact that most VAG cars use the same/similar dash pod computers.

So there is no indication as to when the service is due? I was under the impression OIL came up on the trip computer for 3mins. My old Mk2 reminded me!!! Worried I am going to go over 1000miles now.

Had my 10k service done at awesome gti. It had 10210miles on the clock, when the mileage turned to around 12500 my service light came on. Guess cause awesome gti forgot to reset it, but anayway, point is that the 10k service light didn't illuminate until 12.5k, wierd.

A spanner on the trip counter appears for about 3 min to let you known about interval servicing.

What do you mean no indication!? lol Just wait till the first 2 mileage figures are 10, 20, 30, 40 etc. ;) You 'can' tweak the reminder in VAG COM but its pointless; also you can reset it by just holding the trip reset whilst turning the ignition on and then pleed ignorance if it worked from the computer...

Id get it booked in now mate.

The dealers usualy quote 1000 miles for it to have been serviced correctly for warranty purposes.
