Getting into the dashboard

Ok guys... Long story cut short....

Some kind scumbag broke into my girlfriend's car last week. They basically cut the window seal and lifted out the rear side window without breaking it! Didn't really do any damage other than ripping out the stereo and slashing the cables.... We got a new window seal from the stealership for £30 and popped the window back in. 10minute job!

Now my stereo is the most expensive thing in my car... and that was only about £50... So I bought the old favourite 'flashing LED dummy alarm' just as a deterrant. If it looks like it might be alarmed then they might not bother smashing a window or bending my locks and ripping out lumps of my dashboard!

Where's the best/easiest place to run a permanent and a switched live from!? I've just had a go tonight and can't find any cables at all! The stereo doesn't have a switched live, the heater and fan controls come out from the back not the front so they're a bugger to get to, the heated window switch is a switched live but I can't get it out without fear of breaking it....

It's a '98 MK1 with electric nothing! So there are no windows switches to run a cable from either...

Any more suggestions?

slashing the cables ? pah amateurs

if you have the wiring to tidy up why not run it off to a switch from the permanent stereo live ?

sounds like you have some joining to do anyway so might as well patch it in there now

I used the cigarette lighter to run one from when i was fitting some lights into the boot, although I've now joined the broken cigarette lighter brigade so can't use it anymore.

It's easy to get to though as it's near the bottom of the dash - you can remove the lighter quickly and also reach round from in the footwell. :)

Sorry Fl@pper... I wasn't too clear.

It was my girlfriend's Seicento that had it's stereo ripped out. But it's my Arosa that i'm trying to fit the LED to. But it's easy enough to get my stereo out with the release keys so I could still patch it in there somewhere. Same with the cigi-lighter too I guess.

I was looking for a switched live really. The idea is that you connect the (+) leg of the LED to a permanent live and the (-) leg to the switched live and it comes on automatically when the ignition is off.

How does that heated window switch come out? Sorry for the silly questions. I haven't got a Haynes.
