Anyone know how to remove the gearstick cover from the gearlever? (have a rattle somewhere on the lever). There's a brittle plastic attachment to the console and I don't want to pull too hard in case I break it. 2000 Toledo TDi.

if i remember the knob, the fake leather bit and the plastic bit at the bottom is all one piece....you have to unclip it, kind of prise it up (plastic lugs i think) from the base and lift it up.....cant remember how to remove the knob (and therefore the leathery bit and plastic surround) from the stick though....dont remember it unscrewing....it may have just pulled off........?

Thanks Sam, it's the plastic bit with fake leather I'm trying to remove. There appears to be raised plastic lugs to the left and right of the gearstick but I can't get it to budge - don't want to break it.
