Gearbox prob

So I sold my mk2, which I have to honestly admit was in good condition, no hints of problems, no funny noises etc.

The unlucky guy who bought it off me called me last week for advice, turns out he's broken the gearbox, just makes a whirring sound and no drive obviously.

I haven't seen many threads at all where gearboxes have gone on the mk2 8v's. What would people choose to do, brand new gearbox from a stealer, patent part (although I didnt see any on GSF), or source a 2nd hand? What's labour charges like for fitting a box out of curiousity?

Needless to say, I feel a little guilty for him as he hasn't had the car long, but you never know how someone else has been driving it.

when was the clutch last changed over an who buy? if the guy can do it, tell him to take the gearbox off an check th internals,loss of inital drive cog minght be the sorce or from past trouble changin a clutch whoever changed it might have sheered a bolt fitting the clutch leading to it swirling around the gear box causing internal damage therfore a new ger box yes or a recondisioning of the old one,either way will need money spent to fix it.

It was still the original clutch and gearbox, only the clutch cable was changed a year or 2 ago.

Initially before the prob was diagnosed as the gearbox, I had suggested the pedal box, which I probably would have changed for piece of mind at the next service, any link?

eh at work the mo mate will get you the link an nuber to try around 6 ish but sounds internal in the gear box :S
