Ok, I beleave I have fitted to both our cars the 02A gearbox, cable driven.
Anyway on the Ibiza there is alot of slop in the input to the box itself, not sure what is it called but the "tower" that the cables bolt onto and then looks like it then bolts to the gearbox.
So way question is, would I be able to go to a scrapy, unbolt a good one and replace it or then I undo it bits fall inside the box?
cheers.

that unit simply unbolts and pulls out, the gearbox must be in netrual to remove and then refit it again. there are a couple of pieces to it but it should stay whole if you ease it out and then take a pic incase something does drop off.

its unlikey that would cause a sloppy change, my 16v isnt the best and ive had it since 26k, its always had a long throw, infact i prefered the 8v rod change.
it could be stretched cables if its covered alot of miles?
where the cables attach the tower, try and get them back in the same kind of place because there is adjustment there.

cheers for that, its not so much sloppy gear change (bit it is if you know what I mean) but I can see that it is worn, the shalf going down the tower has a lot of play in it, you can see the hole has worn alot bigger, I have also compaired it to the Vario which has the same gearbox and that is a good fit if you know what I mean.
