Has anyone had this before?

On the odd morning particularly when cold for the first few miles my car refuses to go into gear (usually down shifting into second). It only goes in if i take my foot off the clutch and then try again and it goes in fine. Like i said it only happens for the first mile or two.

Will it be needing oil maybe?

I've had this, I changed my Gear Box linkages (ontop of the gear box, can be seen under the OEM air box), these could just need adjusting on your car or complete new ones if there past there best.
Have you checked your GB oil level recently?
This might be the best place to start, or even fresh new oil.

That and remember, the oil in your gear box doesn't function to its optimum until its heated up so on cold morning gear changes will seems more notchy. Also some of the heavier gearbox oils take longer to heat up.

I remember my Mam's 08 mitsubishi colt was a complete B$stard to get into gear on cold mornings or any morning for that matter before the oil heated up, it turned out then mitsubishi issued a notice to dealers to use a lighter weight oil which did solve the problem.

Check your oil and oil type!

What oil do you use for the gearbox and where/how do i check/fill it? I am sure this was done on my last service although its now due another so may get it checked then.

I have had the linkage on my previous car go and i am sure it wasn't to costly to sort

This could be the oil heating up that's helping this but might be more like your synco mesh

Could also be the linkages needing a wee tweak, have a look at them and see if the rubber bushes in the cable ends have split.
If they are split you can either get new ones from the dealer or try something like these:

You keep the outer plastic section of the original cable end, remove all the split rubber bush and replace it with a solid brass bush. Gives a more solid feel to the shift :funk:

$28 delivered to the UK, they were here in under a week, sweet :)
