does anyone know how to remove gear knob in a lcr,before i use brute force

You need to pull the surround up first. Then you will see a clip at the bottom of the knob under the gaiter. Just prize it apart then pull the knob up

try looking in the 'interior modifications guides section' on - www.leoncupra.co.uk - there is a guide on how to remove your Gear Knob, I found it useful when I fitted my 'FR' Gear Knob on my leon
