Gear Change Problem: Seat Leon MK2 6 Speed Diesel Sport

Hi, My Leon has a problem where I can't change gear properly. It will go into 1st, but not 2nd, but then 3rd, but then won't go into 1st etc.

I've checked the gear linkage cable and one is frayed on it's outer coating so the metal is exposed but the inner part seems ok.

Could this be the issue and is there a way to fix this without replacing the whole gear lever and cables?

(I bought a 2008 FR 6 speed shifter but it doesn't fit even though both are 6 speed and the same generation)

Hi mate have a look on YouTube how to adjust the cables first and if this doesn’t solve your problem then look into changing the cables etc. It’s very easy and could save you a lot of hassle.

Hi, I adjusted them but it works for about 30 seconds before it becomes difficult to select any gear. I think the cable is the problem as its frayed but not sure if it's the gearbox
