Gaskets Done On Warranty?

Done 24045 miles and one of the gaskets has gone either......
Turbo - exhaust
Header - exhaust manifold
or turbo - exhaust manifold

Basically, that thing out there.. sat on four wheels.. sounds like a tank, can smell fumes from the back of the engine bay, and when on the motorway i'm gassing myself.

So.... can these gaskets be done on warranty work? Just need to know before I book it in to be fixed? Or could this be down to a small ecu mod?

Cheers for the replys

you may have a problem if the dealer feels that your mods have caused the blow. best thing to do is book it in and dont say anthing about your ecu mod!!

loose manifold bolts, ring the AA they will sort it within 10 minutes if you don't fancy getting dirty. thats what i did on advice from the SEAT dealer.

A bitch is an understatement, used axial stands in the end. That heat shield at the back of the engine was the worst part and getting to the bolt underneath that......

Only had 1 bolt in the gasket instead of 3... but ended up taking all the inlet side off the turbo (don't think I really need to do this) and some bits at the back of the engine, heat shield, press studded heat shield and a black 90 degree bend, then it was a bit easier to get at the 2 non existent bolts and the one below the shield.

Order all the gaskets required but only used the turbo to manifold but didn't order any bolts so had to shop around and buy some with spring washers but would have rather used spider washers. No point using thread lock due to heat from the turbo would just melt it away.

Anyway she’s up and running but now has a boost leak, probably a pipe popped off somewhere.

Next weekend….. centre section of exhaust is blow where it connects to the down pipe so fix that and saw off the bracket at back to stop it rattling when I have more than 1 person in the rear of the car.

don't do them up as tight as possible. Torque them correctly. There is a reason for bolts having torque figures. on manifiold bolts i would have thought the torque setting swould be to compensate for expansion. Do it too tight and it will just come undone again

Yeah bolts have numbers on top of them for grade of steel also can indicates torque strength. Reason for manifold bolts coming loose, after inspecting them the threads where shinney and smooth which means they have been vibrated out by a high frequancy, guessing from the turbo, coupled with crap washers.

An old thread I know but you can add me to the list. My bolt fell out on the way to the dealer so it sounded like i was on my way to take part in a banger race!

I know its hard to get to to replace the gasket but is it possible to see if the bolts are loose? Don't fancy taking things apart if mine is ok, but I can't hear for sure if mine is rattling over the Milltek and road noise!

You can get to 2 of the bolt if you take off you engine cover. If you look at the DV from above then, there should be a black bolt around there with K?? stamped on it, just get a 17mm socket on it and give it a turn, if it turns easy then it loose.

Go no pictures at the moment of the area and the cars at home.

Kriso if you can take a photo and upload it I'll try and point it out
