I've just bought a second hand abf flywheel for £15 off ebay and I want to get it lightened and balanced.

I see http://www.jnlracing.com/vag_flywheels.php do it for £80 exchange (seems an ok price i think?) and I also heard a guy on another forum does it...does anyone know how much he charges and have his details please?

Or any other suggestion who could do the lightening (as cheaply as possible)?

Cheers.

cheers. pics would be great thanks phil.

I'll pm you my email.

Is the lightened flywheel a PITA in traffic at all (or any adverse effect up hills)?...seeing as I spend half my life in london traffic don't wanna be regretting it

I wouldnt worry about the flywheel, my stage 3 clutch is hard enough. You probably wont notice it in normal conditions, but you'll notice it revving quicker tho.

Some pics...

Taken a safe amount off tho, he reckons he could take more off but didnt want to just in case if comes into problems further down the line.

I think he gets it down to about 6kg.

I've sent him a message on clubgti, so hopefully he'll do it for me.

I expect just posting it to him will cost more than I paid for the flywheel!

fantastic. I just picked up my flywheel this morning from vw cost £120.

Why get it lightened? Is there a need to as i was just going to get it fitted. I did have a little bonus though. They have me 25 or the bolts part no 90206103. They were more than £2 each! lol

a lightened flywheel will allow the engine to rev easier, giving quicker acceleration. but it will also lose revs faster ie when changing gear

And the fact the standard dual mass are rubbish.

The G60 flywheel on its own is better/lighter than the standard dual mass fly.

no it won't matter.

If I was in a hurry for a new clutch I wouldn't bother lightening it either. I'm just aware my clutch has done 82000 miles (although still holding perfectly) so getting all the bits together for the g60/vr6 setup :)

it seems that my dmf is going to die soon...
when i turn off the engine ,while revs falling to 0,i can hear the knocking sound for a sec...
ive been to a mechanic and he said its dmf..
new one costs around 500 pounds so thats not an option.
insted i can buy used vr6 sigle mass flywheel and bolt it on?
it costs...like 15 pounds...
i have a standard clutch so will it fit or i need to do some modifications?

Its not a vr6 flywheel its a g60 single mass flywheel. You will be lucky to find a flywheel for £15 in good condition. It wont fit with your standard clutch and it is a vr6 clutch you need.
