Fuse box on top of battery + Diagnosis light!

Ive done a search and found out how to fix the fault. Now I just need some advice on what the middle of the three fuses does? The problem started tonight were the fuse melts and the fans stop work. So I swap the buggered fuse which controls the fans with the middle of the three fuses. What does that middle fuse do?

The second problem i have is that ever since my car came out the garage last week ive had to return twice and now later today a third time because the diagnosis light keeps coming on. The first time they said the landa sesor or something wasnt connected properly. The second time they said it was something to do with the airfilter which is a H&R I think. The airfilter is sat directly behind the battery and doesnt look like its in the best postion for it, but would this cause the light to come on?? It was fine when I first got the car but since they've mess around with it this happens. I had to move the airfilter last night due to the first problem in this thread. I do have a friend with VAG COM so I could get him to have a look tonight. If I take it up to the garage at lunch and they clear the error would the error be kept in a log somewhere so I could check later?

Cheers

Tom

Well thats what I thought with the gremlin theroy. But the fuse one im not so sure about as ive had a look in daylight, and what I thought had melted hadnt and it was the design. There is no sign of melting on or around the fuse box so I think I might have caught it at the right time. I have been looking at my mates Golf R32 fuse box which looks the same but has a bit more to stop nature getting in.

Im now more concered about this airfilter bringing on the diagnosis light. I might just put the standard box filter on and save up a few pennies for another airfilter. Any recomondations??

i cant see the filter bringing up the light though, if its not sheilded or enclosed you will be sucking in alot of hot air, but even then no light will come on, it will just run like a dog

this is what i would do:-

check all the fuses on top of battery (not blown or melted)
check all the fuses underneath steering rack (one of these blown on mine and brought up my light)
check all vac hoses
check all pipes (air and water)

does your air con work? is it blowing out cold or warm air??

Yeah well the induction kit is sat directly behind the battery. It doesnt look like its doing any good.

A friend of mine has said that the induction kit could be bring up a fault with the MAF sensor? Could this be a problem?

it will be the filter itself that kills the maf, normally on cheapo filters, open filters, so maybe yes, suck in too much hot air

have you tried everything in post 4?
