Funny Ticking Noise??

As you stand at the front of the car on the left behind the massive window washer bottel is a little black plastic box with quite a big hose going into the top of it, just recently it has been making a proper loud ticking noise that can be heard inside the car. Its starting to get on my nerves now plus i dont know what the hell it is and what it does and if it should be making a strange ticking noise or not!


any help would be great!
