Hey guys,
I have had my car for about 5 months now and not had to take it to a dealer for anything. Am planning on soon for its 6 month service...

However, i received a phone call at lunch time from Charles Seat, Crewe, saying that aparantely i am down on their system for a cambely change....News to me.. i thought it was done by milage.. i have only done 47,000 but the car is a 2001 model... Is this a legitimate call or are they just bored and need to make money from someone.

When asked how much, they quoted me a special price of £250 for a cambelt change?

Help please. what do i do?

The clause with all servicing is to get it done within XX amount of miles, or so many years.
EG 1st service on mine is due within 10,000 miles or 12 months (which ever comes around sooner).

This is what my service book says...

Every 60,000 Miles:

Toothed belt for camshaft drive - replace (Alhambra model TDi engines with pump injector only)

Every 60,000 Miles (for the first time) and after every 20,000 miles:

Toothed belt for camshaft drive - check condition (only petrol engines)

Every 80,000 Miles:

Toothed belt for camshaft drive - replace (only TDi models with injector pump, except for the Alhambra model)

Every 100,000 Miles:

Toothed belt for camshaft drive - replace (only TDi & SDi engines)

Every 120,000 Miles:

Toothed belt for camshaft drive - replace (only for petrol engines with 5 valves per cylinder and 2.0 FSI engine)

In the next section (every 2 years, every 4 years & every 6 years...) there is no mention of camshaft belts.

Maybe Seat have changed their service schedule since my service book was written...? Or maybe it doesn't need doing...?

Well when i spoke to them, they said it has recently changed, and now they do it every 4 years...
all news to me. ill check my little book when i get home.

Bit of a long shot but is this not covered on my warranty or is that for general wear and tear.

normal servicing costs, wear and tear. if its not under warranty you can service it when you like. just follow the guidelines in the manual.

Personally I would take it to Votex in Congleton. I've taken both my Cupra and now my Cupra R there. Alot cheaper and IMO better service.
