Getting a bit bored with my Revo'd Cupra tdi, I was contemplating having the Cat Back Milltek installed as I loved it on my Mk3, however Powerstation informed me that I would only benefit from the Sports Cat.

Is this true and if so what real world benefits will I gain on a Diesel or shall I just stick with the cat back ?

Obviously cost is a big factor so any info will be much appreciated.

IMO if you have the full Milltek with race cat it won't be too long untill you will need an uprated clutch ;)

You may also get some overboost (that's what I found)

With the Full system as more gasses come out you may get over spike on the boost?

It may aslo be a little more sooty!!

I went back to my mapper and the mapping was fixed to suit the exhaust.

Revo may adapt to the exhaust after a few days...but not sure?

Would be nice, as far as I know you can't have the sports cat with the stock exhaust, but I may be wrong.

Personally i don't see the point of paying hundreds of pounds for a sports cat when a £10 piece of pipe does a better job at alot less money.I and several friends cars have all passed MOT`s with no cats. The Milltek cat back system does make alot of difference.:D
I still have my Allards uprated turbo down pipe if your or anyone else is interested.

surly u bought this car for mpg, so why mess with it and screw up the mpg, if you wanted performance you would have bought petrol.

Thanks devonmikeyboy, your right of course, but I don't think I want the worry of no cat.

I think I may try the cat back and go from there. Did you have the Resonated or non-res Miltek ?

Actually I didn't buy it on mpg alone, I felt the PD had the edge in terms of excitement out of the box knowing that a Revo would give me even better performance. The fact that it had potentionally better mpg was just a bonus, basically the ideal all round package.

The Miltek idea was just meant to be a relatively cheap upgrade (ignoring the Cat) and make the whole package even better. According to Miltek site mpg actually improves for various reasons, but I'd take that with a pinch of salt.

Plus I just can't fight the urge to 'have a tinker' as it were :D

Thats one of the great things about diesels, you can remap then and still get factory mpg. My cupra was doing 35 mpg at 90 mph and 25 mpg at 120 mph at both 160 bhp and 247 bhp.

Grey Fox i had the none resonating exhaust. The factory exhaust didnt stay on for long but i am pretty sure it only had a single back box no centre box which is what you get with the none rasonating system. You could always get a cat back system made buy a custom exhaust fitter with no back box and save yourself alot of money. A friend has had it done but it tends to get abit boomy when motorway driving.

So you had the noisier one then devonmikeyboy, tempted by that one as it's a diesel. I know you can never get rid of the diesel chatter on idle but might make it more interesting.

Did you ever find it too noisy ?

No i didn't. I start work at 2.AM so i can drive quite "enthusiastically" since nobody is about plus i do alot of motorway driving. Diesels tend not to roar like petrol cars do i find, thats why we can get away with a straight pipe from the turbo to exhaust tip. If you did that on a petrol it who roar like hell.

I have the non resonated milltek from the turbo back with a sport cat, and all i can say is WOW!!!, what a difference it made in throttle response, noise and how quickly the turbo spools up. It is a very good system, and well worth the money. Many people who have heard mine will say, that it sounds awsome for a riesel once under load and up and running, but at idle, it still sounds like a diesel, but a bit deeper note.

Before i got the car i thought what is the point in getting an exhaust for a diesel? as it will sound ****, but how wrong was i? very. It sounds fantastic, better than a petrol i would say, but then again i do have a hybrid turbo to make it go and sound well.

I would say go for it mate, you wont be dissapointed in your purchase.

I have performance, and can still get very good MPG out of it, i got 55mpg on the way back from surrey on monday evening.
And whilst giving it some beans, it still has better fuel consumption than a petrol, whilst beating them LMGDFAO ;)
