fuel filter - how do i remove pipes?

hi,

after my fuel filter decided to let go and dump half a tank of petrol on the local roads im trying to fit a new one.

(and in process ive found they are not replaced at 40,000 miles service like many believe on here...)

anyway i just cant get the damm pipes off the fuel filter!
they are 'just push on' according to a mechanic and the dealer.
Ive searched on here, one post talked of depressurising the system while the dealer said no need its a doddle...

well as the post suggested i removed fuel pump fuse and turned the engine over (doesnt start no surprise there) to try and depressurise it.

still no luck...

no matter how hard i pull or dare pull on a fuel line i cant get them to budge!

anyone know why?
any tips?

help!!!!!

you need more ready brek

pressurised, not vacuum - so disconnecting the relay will stop it spraying you when you eventually remove it

can you twist the filter on the pipe?

yes can twist the filter on the pipes easily... with hardly any effort!
was kinda thinking that any major pressue in system would have gone as it sprays everywhere when the pump goes!

if i get any more in my eyes ill.. ill... ill do something!

if there's no convetional clips it will be a collet system, either push button in or pull collet towards the filter whilst pulling the pipe in the other direction, on refit should just snap on

ok got them off!

:)

did it by squeezing the pipe near the end which was received by a 'click' they then came off easy...
was worried on refot as only clicked back one one didnt!
but they both seem solidly on now ive run the car for a bit...

lol, when i did mine, it was a git of a clip! went right the way up my arm, but i used some momo gearknob rubber adaptors to plug the ends to stop anymroe leaking out while i got the new one ready for fitting :)

Ha, why didn't i think of something like that! I just tried to do it quickly, but then poured the fuel from the filter in my eyes!

Don't know if you've read my other post, got a missfire not long after I changed it so don't know if i've done something wrong!

Weird really, if I leave it about five extra seconds when I switch the ignition on it starts and runs fine. If I don't, you need a bit of throttle to start it, the idle is erratic and it has a missfire!

I know one thing though. I'll only take the car to a seat dealer and only get parts from the seat dealer.

Although it's not my problem for much longer, just ordered a smart roadster (never thought i'd have one but it was a good deal and good fun to drive!) So my mum is buying the ibiza back off me, she had it from new and loves it!

well as long as you fitted it the correct way...

the original one on my car has a motif on it that was like a big arrow, fitted this was what showed and so originally i though its on backwards!
on removing it had lots of much smaller arrows going the other way so it was at least fittted correctly.
but what donkey put a mifif on like that and the wrong way.. doh...

new one did not have motif!

Bringing this back from the dead,

Tried to get mine off last week, with no luck at all. tried pushing, prodding, levering, swearing, and ended up fitting my ARB instead!
