i own a mk3 1.4 ibiza,

got in my car this morning to drive to work and noticed for the first time there was a frost icon on the centre console display next to the ext temp which was reading 1.5

I'm guessing this frost image comes on when its cold but what does it actually do??

seems pointless to display this if its not actually doing something while its on...

car seemed normal btw

thanks

Its a simple temperature warning, its just a visual thing, to let you know that the temp outside is in the 'Black ICE' range. So if knowing whether your going to crash or not is pointless. :)

so its just simply a visual warning for black ice :-/

i thought it might do something cool

first time i've seen it but first time its been that cold since i've had the car, as for being up north i am in Darlington, thats pretty north, about 45 mins from newcastle.

Yup, Black ICE is more likely to form on the roads, under 5°C, so its just letting you know that it could be around, so be aware, adjust your driving to suit the conditions.

does it hold off the AC compressor too?

Nope, but the AC is held off until the air temp is above a certain level which i believe to be 5 degree's.

I did wonder when i read this post, what more would you want a Frost Indicator to do!

i meant to ask about something similar to this, on my cupra some mornings, a red light flashes on the temp gauge and it bleeps at me for a few seconda when i start the car. is this a similar sort of thing? on cold mornings only?

is it supposed to do that then? it only does it occasionally? does it mean it needs coolant topping up?
