Front speakers rattle

Does anyone have any idea how to get to the front speakers in the new leon?

Mine have developed an awful rattle, which is driving me insane. I've taken it back to the dealers sveral times, who always claim to have sorted the problem, but within a few days its back, so i'm gonna have a crack at it myself...can't do any worse than them!!

Just pop the speaker covers off, there held in place with four push in pegs.

Be careful removing the covers though as the plastic is very soft.

Speaker is held in with four screws.

I did it this weekend, and it seems to have worked.
You'll need a T20 torx drive for it though.

Asmiffy, what did you do. Mines now a week old and have the same rattle from what appears the same place. I'd rather sort it myself than have the hassle of taking it to the dealers if it's a simple job i.e just tightening the speaker up

Hi soapysoap,

It's pretty easy to do.
Just use a flat blade screwdriver to prise of the grille. There is a peg at the top right, bottom right, top left, and bottom left of the grille surround. Be careful when popping them out, because the grille is pretty flimsy.
Once that's off you'll need a T20 torx bit to tighten them, but it's done the job fine on mine.

Tightend up speaker and door card lat night to no avail. Still rattle coming from what appears to be the lower passenger door area but only above 60mph. I'll book it in to the dealers next week unless anyone knows of anything else it could be.

Best to get a passenger to try and find out what it is when you're driving (or visa-versa) Could be the actual door top trim or similar, have you tried leaning on the various door panels when the noise happens to try & stop it ?

I had an odd rattle coming from the rear passenger door, turned out to be the torx screws holding the lock in were loose, tightened them up myself. Could be that on the front door locks perhaps?
I also had a noise of something sliding around behind the passenger dash, only happened on tight corners. It stopped the day my passenger found a strange piece of black plastic lying in the passenger footwell

Console yourself with the fact that the leon's distant relative the Golf V has got a darn site worse reputation for creaks & rattles from the trim, doors & dash. There's a list of complaints from Golf V owners as long as your arm on the WhatCar readers review section of their site.

Mine is only a week old, and there is a rattle coming from the passenger area which seems to start at higher speeds. After a while it will stop then start again. It is becoming really annoying now and I can't work out exactly where it is coming from. Is this a known problem?

The missus is going to drive my car tomorrow night (for the first time) while I try to establish where the rattle comes from. Only happens about 60mph and not every time. I'll let you know if I come to any conclusions. Any dealers on here aware ogf a common problem as there seems to be a couple of us with the same symtoms

Ive had my 2 rear speakers replaced as they were 'buzzing'. the front one does it slightly and the rears have started to again, have turned the bass right down and that helps.

Also in hot weather both front windows creak. My mate has a Mk5 GTI he has worse probs and he paid £23k no cruise, folding mirrors or metallic paint :)
