Front panel or radio?

Ok, I have posted before about this but i have found out some more bits now...

My front panel on my radio/ac controls does not come on.

The heating and air con/fan controls work fine but I just cant see whats going on.

The radio its self is totally dead, no white noise even.

I have taken everything out and when I removed the lid off the stereo I found some crud around one of the biggest chips on what I can only describe as the stereos mother board. It smelt of rust, so I can only guess some sort of fluid/condensation has got to it at some point. I have cleaned it all off. Still nothing.

So it looks like the stereo it's self is the problem not the front panel.

Do we know if the internals of the stereo gives the display for the AC/temp controls to?

Dont want to replace both parts unless I have to...

Really need to work out which bit is faulty.

Yes, we do.
As an example, if you fit the wrong Seat radio, it won't let you use the stalk controls for the MPG/TRIP/TEMP computer. The radio does indeed contain the electronics used to manage most of the items displayed on the LCD display.

Ok thanks, think i will start with a replacement stereo and go from there.
