drill out the rivets that hold them in he means, I did the same JBLs in (not component sin my case thou) and amped. I bought some adapters as the originals ones are kind of mounted on about an inch of plastic. You could make adapter easily also be careful the speakers are not too thick as it's very tight with the window glass!

Very happy with mine the last 2 years or so.

with adapter yes you can't not have/make adapters as they won't fit in the hole if you get my meaning they need to be raised. You will see what I mean if you pop the door card off, there is a guide in the FAQ section for how to take the door cards off so you aren't hunting for screws. I fitted the speakers myself which is not bad for a girl but I didn't amp them got an audio place to that as I have no clue about that but you obviously know how to do all that.

I have a 1" baffle to fit my speakers and they BARELY fit! If they were any deeper they'd hit the window, and more on the baffle and the door card wouldnt fit back on lol. I have Rockford T162S front and rear and amped up and they sound good, but I really need a sub.

VAG speakers tend to sound pretty good if you just amp the standard ones so maybe try that? TBH, changing speakers is a pretty subjective thing. Get to an audio shop and listen to them for yourself then you can decide what you like best. Also sound deadening is supposed to really improve the bass from the door speakers. Costs soon mount up tho!
