Went through the same decision. Take the st badge off and you're left with a focus. Enjoy specing your 184.

Take the FR badge off and you are left with a Leon.

To be fair you're always going to get ill thought out responses like that when you come to an enthusiasts forum. I'm sure if you went on a FocusSTOC.com forum you'll get a response like don't buy that spanish S****e, not realising that the Seat is basically a Volkswagon now.

For a more reasonable response, that may likely upset the Leon drivers on here...

The Focus is a very good car, depends what you are after. I love the look of the ST and have to say it looks a lot better than the FR (and the Cupra for that matter), I love them in the orange.

If I was going for a 5 door (not an estate) I'd take the Focus ST over the FR on looks alone. Sorry to say when you see an ST driving towards you, you know its a sporty ford. You see an FR driving towards you its a Leon until you're on top of it, and then is it a Cupra or is it an FR. With the facelift its even harder to tell. @paddy6789 thought my car was parked on the road when coming to mine the other day as a neighbour (who I suspect works for Seat) has an FR with Cupra Sub8 Wheels.

Without the trick diff on the Cupra the Focus ST has the FR easily covered.

However the estate for me just was never under consideration as the boot was just too small, no matter how cool it looked.

So assuming there isn't anything that makes one or the other a no go (e.g. size of boot), test drive them both and see which you are smiling more at afterwards.

looked at the focus st before getting my leon fr 184.
to me, the centre console of the focus was way too big and i really didnt like the black headlining in the focus.
"felt" far too cramped.
but at the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference.
what's right for me, may not be right for you ;)

I'm in the same boat tbh
I think the focus has the better interior but the leon has the better looking exterior.
Not sure which sat nav is best, the focus does have the 8' screen as pre2016 in the leon it is a 5' screen
I wish when the seat leon shows full link on the menu it would work without paying for an activation key, it's abit of a con if I'm honest I thought it came with the technology pack??

I’m coming from a focus STD to a Leon FR 184 facelift next week. If I’m honest, the Leon feels more grown up from what I’ve driven so far. My focus was sooo bad in the winter and a lot of people have issues just in the wet! Always felt the Focus was missing something too, the diesel isn’t the quickest and it always felt like it was trying to be something it isn’t. Absolutely loved the looks and seats in them though. I’ll be sad to see mine go and it absolutely loved a hot day and some B roads but the Leon is working out cheaper and it’s going to be my “sensible grown up” car that I “won’t be modifying” (atleast that’s what I’ve told the girlfriend) car until I can afford something like the Cupra or Focus RS.

Feel free to fire any questions my way about the Focus though :)

so do you think the seat leon fr 184bhp feels faster than the focus st tdci 182bhp as my seat leon Fr 184 test drive was just up a road and back lol my focus test drive was better, also how come if you get the technology pack you dont get full link standard i thought you would ?

I dont know either car but from my perspective if you are buying a car make sure you take it for a good drive, if the garage wont let you then walk away till you find one that does. These cars are not cheap so you need to feel comfortable in them.

@DAV3G46 to ask how they compare is not enough. I drive my cars hard (dont car about MPG or the fact I have to use premium fuel) and my requirements are all about how the car handles corners under power. I don't care about the big screen in the middle or the gadgets they now come with.

My wife on the other hand wants a very quiet car that does good MPG and is very comfy.

Looks are not important to either of us.

Personally I like the Woolf in sheep clothing aspect of the Leon.

As stated by @Damo H this is a Leon Forum so you wont get an unbiased view.

At the end of the day You need to drive both cars and be clear in your mind what you want out of this car.
If you check on every FORD and VW (Family) forums you will see the best and worst of all the models and owners.
You have to decide is the car a good fit for your requirements, Do you trust the Garage to look after your warranty and lastly (and for some most important) will the car be ok for the period of time you want to keep it.

At least you got some well thought responses ignoring the blip at the start. Enjoy the test drives :)

That blip was the 'well thought out' process I went through which resulted in getting my Leon. You don't have to agree with it.

Went through the exact same thing before I got my 184.

The dash in the Focus did nothing for me, it was full of buttons and felt like it took up half the interior space in the front, personally I like the open feeling in the Leon. Also got fed up in my old car with people trying to race me anywhere and everywhere, which is something you will get in the ST, less so in the Leon because most people dont know what it is. By all accounts on paper its quite a bit quicker than the Focus too

In the end for me it came down to price, and the Leon won hands down for the deal I got, and to be honest I dont regret it one bit, its quiet and does crazy good MPG on the motorway for the size of the engine, but can be just about enough fun on the backroads. It hasn't really put a foot wrong in the time I've had it either.
