I've nearly clocked one thousand miles in my FR (I'm lovin it by the way). Just filled up and I'm getting 31.95 MPG and I have been careful and aint giving her the beans, not yet anyway. What are you guys getting, does the run-in period really make that much difference? Mainly M6/A roads.

I have been told a friend of a friend who has a Mk5 GTI and he is getting nearly 40! But then again, Golf owners always exaggerate!

My driving is a bit of a mix. My commute takes me on a bit of the M62 which is like a car park at times and others you can get to proper motorway speeds. Add in bit of country lanes, a bit of town driving and I get around 30MPG. Got 1900 miles on the clock so far....

My TFSI Sport is showing an indicated 33.3mpg at 10k. Mix of motorway and A1roads

Thanks guys. I think driving style has allot to do with it. The odd role up to the lights really improves economy, its just ragging it from the lights that ruins all the good work.

I got 35Mpg (the computer said anyway) on the way into work today up the A34/M6. I take the lanes on the way home and get 28Mpg, I wonder why ;-)

I think my MPG has gone up due to the engine maturing, as well as better gearing and lower revs.

2700 miles old. Usual average from a tank of V-Power is 20.5 - 21.

18 if I cane it. Best I've ever had on a steady run in 6th is 25.5. :-(

Truly shocked. Chose this over a Focus ST / Impreza due to better advertised economy.

Also only 2mm of tread left on front tyres. Traction v. poor from Pirelli P-Zeros. Frequently lighting up the rubber even at 40/50 mph on our local uneven roads.

Blimey! Is that figure from the onboard computer or did you work it out from the pump? I'm running on P-Zeros and with V-Power.

I've had mine about 10 days, over 500 miles it has averaged about 28.5. Not too bad considering its brand new. I reckon once it loosens up it will average around 33/34.

Are the PZeros really that bad?

i have a tdi sport which is mapped to 185 and it does not spin at all in the dry. I have Bridestones Potenza RE050 on. Spins in the wet but that is to be expected.

Thats interesting i have an FR TDi and it has P zero's! and it spins the wheels easily in the dry! What tyres do people recommend?

Interesting.... sounds like your dealer did some wheel swapping

The Bridgestones are 'so' much better (at least they were at doing back to back laps at the Press launch) with the Pirrelli's eventually just understeering

I done a 60ish mile economy run last night, mainly motorway, I peaked at average 41.5MPG.

That was about 60 on the motorway and cruise control all the way. I was exstatic! :D

Is this anything to do with having 18's fitted?

Using the fill-till-click, read pump, *0.22 / Odometer gives about .2 mpg less than on-board.

Tried alternating tanks with 95RON and consistently get about 1mpg less than VPower.

How far before rev-limiter do you recommend changing gear? I try and anticipate just before it cuts in (approx 6800rpm) before changing up (only in 1st, 2nd, 3rd).

...and have you ever tried driving with the Stability Control switched on? I find it just continously kills power so it feels like you're driving a 1400cc.

When I had an Impreza for a long test drive I averaged 24mpg and 20mpg in a Focus ST.

Maybe the FR lump still needs to loosen up (now 2900 miles and counting...).

erm... WTF? and your moaning about bad economy? I think any sane person tends to change gear not much above 3k RPM??!!
