FR standard boost and after remap

Hi all, may seem like a daft question but what is the boost pressure for a standard FR TDI in psi, and if I had a stage 1 remap (180bhp) from custom code what would it then be ?

Mines standard and with autogauge boost gauge it shows in 1st and 2nd gear spikes 26PSI and drops to 20, hold 20 until it hits 4000rpm then tails off to 16 until 5000, but dont bother going that far and change at 4, dont know about map but would be good to know :)

Many thanks fellas, must admit boost is far more than I expected on both counts, but Im just beginning to learn about tdi's, been used to petrol all these years, I thought I knew a bit, its like starting from scratch all over again

It's not that different - you just get used to getting 400 miles to a tank even when you've been driving like a loon for all of it :) Torque is a nice thing, especially at low revs - makes motorway cruising effortless.

The only thing not to do is stamping on the accelerator in the higher gears at < 1500rpm as you'll skin the dual mass flywheel alive.

I was expecting standard boost to be around 7-10psi and a remaped 180bhp increase to be around 12-15psi ! a petrol car with 25psi I would expect to have 350bhp+ like a RS focus or cosworth.
Reason I asked was I wanted to ge the right boost gauge, good job I waited and asked the question. Thanks again. :D

Exactly mate :)

Slightly off topic, ive done 200 miles to ever so slightly over the first quater of a tank on the dial, only 40-50 of those are motorway, the rest is slow town- booting down expressways is that good for that kind of driving as the computer says Im only getting 38 but my experience with the computers off a golf and corrado was that theywere "round and about" right

Hi the boost pressures for diesels are generally much higher than petrols due to the way they operate

A Custom-Code Phase 1 Leon FR TDI will see approx 28-30 PSI spike then tail off to mid 20's higher in the RPM range

The torque is what people crave from the diesels with a Leon FR TDI seeing approx 300ft/lbs spread smoothly across the entire RPM range

PSI does not always equate to more power in both petrol and diesel turbos,it depends on the fuelling, airflow and size of turbo also.

As a comparison a K03 running 18-20 PSI of boost will produce approx 190bhp whereas a IHI 16G running the same boost will produce approx 280-300bhp.It is all down to how much air a turbo can flow.

Hope this helps

got a query for a mate, he has a 2002 52 plate ibiza tdi 130 sport and has a AmD remap, decat and air filter, his car has done 130,000 miles now, and i said to him that you should be worried about the boost, cause it spikes at 31psi and then holds a 28-29psi then near the end ov revs tails off 25psi, i would of thought that was too much boost?

Fabia VRS PD130

Standard spiked to 21psi and held boost at 19psi

Remapped, spiked at 24-25 psi, held at 22-23 psi.

31psi would be a little excessive for a 130PD,it equates to over 2 bar on spike and holding 1.7 towards redline.

I would imagine that he is seeing a large overboost on his car.

With this kind of boost it will be running high EGTs and i highly doubt that the injectors will be able to support it as the 130PD comes with a 80mg injector size

what is the max PSI a PD130 can take?
more specifically, what is the max PSI the turbo can run too?

i too am suprised that TDi's run such high boost!
