Can anyone tell me what size/sort of bolt holds on the rear caliper carrier? Changing some discs and pads!

not sure on bolt size and i dont know if you know but you have to wind the piston back into the caliper not just push. if you just push it back you may damage it.

Ta! I thought it might have been a multi spline as per most modern VAG.

how do you wind back the pistons? and why?



How - with a wind back tool like whats contained in this kit

EDIT: I was going to post you a pic of a wind back kit but this statement got in my way

Just google brake caliper wind back tool and you will see.

Why - to reset the handbrake mechanism within the caliper.

am i glad i read this post:D. probably do the rears later this year and would have likely destroyed something!:wtf::-o[:@]. i did the fronts a few months back - no probs.

better get myself a windback kit then.

Did the job today, it was an 8mm allen bolt for the caliper carriers ;)
