FR 4 2.0 vs Cupra V2 1.5

Hi folks, looking for a bit of advice.

Currently own a ‘21 reg Ateca FR4, which is our 3rd SEAT with the 2.0 engine.

Our local dealer claim to have some good deals on a brand new Cupra Ateca V2, but it is only the 1.5.

I’m looking for some advice from anyone that has driven both.
Is the drop in power immediately noticeable?
Is it even worth the time of going for a test drive?

Thanks in advance.

I'd go for a test drive. Also have a look at where that engine is fitted to other Vag cars verses the petrol see what they are saying. I drive the tdi 2.0 lump which gets me away fast enough on roundabouts when oncoming traffic slap their foot down as they enter.... else you'd never get away. Plenty of power in the turbo diesel for maneuvers to keep in front when you need to.

Have a look at the Ateca Cupra thread as well. Some posters were a bit dismayed as I recall that the Cupra brand was getting polluted by smaller engines. Big engines v small engine people 😉. Will all be electric soon . Yes so I'd sniff out where that engine is reviewed verses the 2 litre on other Vag cars.

To be fair, took it for a test drive and I was pleasantly suprised considering that it’s only got 7 more bhp than the last Ibiza I owned about 12 years ago.
It’s ok off the mark but I did notice a bit of wheel spin without the 4drive system. It’s a bit gutless when it kicks down at higher speeds too.
Got offered a brand new ‘74 plate v2 for the same price as we’ve been paying for our ‘21 FR Sport.
It’s a lovely car but I can’t get my head around having the Cupra branding and look with a considerably less powerful engine.

On the last bit that will be the Cupra branding for now on desirable cars at the top end but the opportunity to have a less powerful engine in as well. Really just dropped Seat from the name. How it turns out across the new range we'll have to wait and see.
