Had a Flat battery the other day (Tolly 1.9TDI S 110 (99 model)) now starange things....I have since charged the battery, but I think it is the original, it struggles to start the engine and the engine almost seems to kick back before it bursts into life. (Also note my previous thread about a new MAF) Now for the ghosts in the machine....since the flat battery: if sat in the car and lock the doors with the button on the driver,s door handle all will lock, but the front passenger door will immediately unlock.....if locking the car from outside the indicators used to flash when the doors locked....they now only flash when the car is unlocked (this is with the remote) (note after locking the red light in the door flashes as normal and all doors lock) Last but not least...the clock will not set..or rather it will set but within 24 hrs has unset itself. Is this all down to a weak battery? I have heard of probs like this on other marques when the battery gets a bit low. (I still have the flat performance having fitted the new MAF (goes like a rocket after 3000rpm) and have not yet had time to do a reset (moving house AAARGH) can I cure these things by fitting a new battery??? or the electrical gremlins at least.?

People...I think Ihave solved it...disconnected the new MAF...No difference...so the thing about being dead before 3000rpm and like a bat out of hell after it, is a Factory setting?? Is it common for new MAFs to be defective???? I,ll search the threads and see if anyone has commented on this.

are all the 'cells' on the battery full (or is it one of those non tamper things that are crap??!?!) I had similar things on a 'biza.. put on a brand new battery after chsrging the other one a few times , never had a problem since!

Thanks Gray T and especially Brummie, I must be getting stingy in my old age, I would have replaced that battery straight away a while back as Iknow that being down just a couple of volts on VAG cars upsets the electrics. I am driving to Gatwick in it tomorrow just to see if a long run will wake up the ECU and adjust itslf to this new MAF which by the way is a 038 906 461C can anyone confirm that this is correct for a Tolly 110TDI S (99 model year) and are the indicators supposed to flash when you lock and unlock the car, mine now only flash on unlocking? Just another thought maybe this MAF is for a 130TDI? like I said after 3000rpm it takes off like it never did before and with no visible (from the drivers seat) smoke.

OK changed the battery and all is now OK on the driving side, she,s almost back to normal , power comes in at 2500rpm, still comes on very strongly at 3000rpm, but I suppose the ECU will learn. Still have that prob with the passenger side door lock. It will lock OK when I lock from the plipper, but using the internal switch on the drivers door it will first lock and then unlock itself. (had the door cover off and checked all of the connections) all other lock ok from the internal drivers door switch. Is it a specific problem?
