I am going to replace my timing chain on saturday with one of the technicians from work is there any settings I need to do or anything? or can I take one chain off and replace it with the new one?Any help is appreciated as I phoned my local dealer and he had no clue and Seat customer services are'nt open on Saturdays! You can't just take it off and replace it, you have to make sure the timing marks are aligned, Auto data should have diagrams and info you need, if your technician friend doesn't have access to this should he be doing the job?

Just checked on ELSA Win and you need timing tools to do the job which also change depending on engine code

Good Luck

Hummmm, that was a very true and honest answer!

Especially when there is a lot of talk about upgraded parts maybe being needing replaced as well to improve reliability!

Id say he's well capable of doing the job and over qualified as he was regarded and rated 1 of the top 10 subaru technicians in the UK and taken off the volvo bonus scheme as he completed jobs quickly and easily, he just have'nt done one before or seen one been done. Thats what makes me think shall I take it to a Seat dealer? it just feels like im paying redicilous money for a job that could cost me £20 and a Saturday morning as I work in a Ford dealership.

The reason people use dealers is because they have the tools and technical data to do the job and you get a warranty with the work.Unlike your mate otherwise you wouldn't be asking the questions.

As you've got one of the best/fastest technicians in the west i'm sure a bottle of tipp-ex will suffice, i'm f:censored:d if i would do it for £20 but each to there own.

Maybe they think that it sounds "bad" - or this could be related to the fact that I've heard that that engine can/should be made more reliable by changing some bits associated with the chain. If the chain has an accident like a few owners on these forums have had, then it can get very expensive - maybe this is a misinformed over reaction from me - but if I had accidentally found myself owning a 1.2 VAG engined car, then I'd do anything to avoid having the chain trash the engine.

£20 down to he would be helping me do it not do it his self and he owes me a list long of favours and prob would'nt accept anything to do it but id give him money for giving up his time to help me. Ill look into a seat dealer price up the job tommorow I think. Thanks for the info and guidence though mate appreciate it :)
