Fitting New Stero - Need Ideas?

Having searched high and low for resolutions to using my ipod in my MK2 Leon (FM transmitters, aux port fitted by seat (quite a hefty price for what it is!) I have decided that a new stereo is the only way to go. I quite like the Harmon Kardon interface but not too happy with the FM transmitter, can it be hardwired?

I'm unsure as to what would look good as the dash doesn't look like it would accomodate a stereo very easily and could look a bit odd. I've searched all over the forum but cannot find many uploaded pictures of stereos that have been fitted to see what would look best.

Any chance you guys could point me in the right direcion or post some photos of your work to help?

Much appreciated.

Hi Gaz

Not so sure about the Mk2 Leon, as you say, the dash is a funny shape for retro fitting stereos, but the majority of them are going to be standard single DIN size which you can mate quite neatly with one of those fascia plates and a wiring adaptor.

A popular choice with the Leon Mk1 is the Becker Mexico range, check them out as they are extremely good quality and blend quite well with the Leon's red (well reddish on the Mk2) interior. I believe they do a comprehensive range of models and functions to allow iPod connectivity and Bluetooth usage as well as MP3 CD compatibility and the like.

Do you have the Leon's built in Bluetooth kit? If so I would be interested to know how accommodating that setup is to aftermarket stereos as of course the volume controls the phone too.

I have just fitted one of these:

http://www.panasonic.co.uk/multi%20media/cq-vd7005n/index.htm

Into my mk2 leon, fitting was relatively simple, once you know which bits you need,

Apparently there are some fascia adapters for the right hand drive version availabe now, but i couldnt find any!

So, called my seat parts department, gave them my chassis number and they ordered the OEM sat nav surround which means it will be exactly the same colour as the dash and a perfect fit.

However, all this gives you is a double din hole, so you need an adapter to fit a single din headunit in which is something SEAT dont supply...

time to ring volkswagen!

went and picked up the double to single din adapter for the golf, which fits perfectly in the seat fascia hole (it does require some caressing on the underside to get it into the right place in the dash)

The good thing about the golf bit is you dont just get a blanking plate to cover the second din hole, you get a handy pocket that gives you more storage space above the headunit.

Whole fitting stuff cost about £25.00 from volkswagen and seat.

Will try and get some pics of mine, looks like it came with the car, not sure you would get as close a colour match on the parts if you bought an aftermarket kit.

hope that helps!
