Went out to check on my Ibiza, the locking button on the key only works when it feels like it, so I always just use the lock.

Put the key in, turned teh lock, nothing. full movement left and right, but its abviously not connected to the actual locking mechanism.

Went round to the passenger side and used the key and all the locks operated, so I'm guessing the lock is joined to the actual mechanism with a metal rod or linkage? I'm hoping that this rod has either popped out or snapped, in which case should be quite easy to fix.

I'll get the door card off on saturday when its light and investigate.

Ever happened to anyone else?

mine's doing that too, but I haven't looked into it yet (I'm being lazy and using the passenger side lock :D ) - can you let us know how you get on?

theres a little 'pip on the inside (back of lock mechanism) that can either pop out or even break.. i had this with my old Mk2 when I bought it.. popped into local scrappy got a lock barrel out of a mk3 polo as they had no ibiza's in.. job done in less than 15 mins

theres a paddle from the handle/barrel that slots inside the lock mechanism that usually breaks off quite regular and easily fixed

look just inside the door frame for a grommet with an allen key bolt under it - undo that and the handle will come out HOPE fully with all the bits on :)

this might help fix the remote or simpler still reprogram the remote itself

So would it be possible to remove the lock barrel from the passenger side to put in the drivers.

Obviously the passenger side is hardly used, so that would be ideal, but obviously not possible if the mechanisms are handed.

I really dont want a set of keys like a prison wardens just to use the car LOL!

Yeah the lock barrels are changable between sides and the other option is to get rear door handles from an ibiza/cordoba/polo and de-lock the doors if you have remote locking.

Mine broke on the 1.4 and somehow we managed to fit it without taking the handle and lock barrel out. that was a mission.

But I know to take it out for next time now so it'll be either.
