Has anyone got any idea of what could be wrong and how to fix it?

My car won't shift into first at all. Its fine into all others including reverse but it feels like im hitting a wall with first gear.

I thought it could be the synchro but im not sure how i would fix this.

On a side note does anyone know why there isnt a haynes manual for the ibiza? would you just use the polo 6n one?

cheers

this has happened to me a couple times, does the gear lever feel like it only goes half way into first? (i hope you know what i mean, it's hard to describe) i remember it feels like you said, its like its hitting a wall, i think i just tried getting into reverse then going back a couple inches then trying first again, or just sitting with the clutch pedal in, then putting it into second then trying going back to first again, i really worried the first time it happened to me, i was in a petrol station with an angry BMW X5 driver behind me! i'm going to ask at my next service for Seat to have a proper look into what might be causing this, but try putting it back and forward into another gear or going backwards a little in reverse was one way i solved it, hope that helps! :(

My mate had this in his Clio. The only way it worked was by him puting it into 2nd then straight forward into 1st. Came back a problem with his gear linkage.

Does the gear stick feel slacker than normal when in gears? You could move his about when in a gear gate.

I've tried all sorts of ways but theres nothing I can do to get it in. Its been broken for a day... try pulling onto a busy roundabout in 2nd gear. But so far nothing is working to get it in.

Had this problem on my old car, gear linkage gets my bet. Not sure what hte construction is on these, but on my old car some of the join was plastic and it gradually wore away until I had no 1st or 2nd gear.

New clutch apparently .... does £300 fitted seem about right to you? Thats with a new slave cylinder aswell.

How hard would it be to fit tI don't mind saving myself a a few quid and doing it but not if its a real pain in the arse

By the way, back to your question about a Haynes manual, just buy the Polo 9N one not the 6N one. Ask Haynes when/if they are going to produce a manual for the Ibiza 6L - they will reply if you email them - have a look on their website first. I'd expect that traditionally the Ibiza sells in smaller numbers than the Polo - well at least in the markets that Haynes target. I know that this is not true for the 6L Ibiza so maybe Haynes might find some time to remedy that - if owners pester them.
