And I liked it.
Drove it along some 40-60 mph winding roads and then onto the dual carriageway. The salesman said he had filled it with petrol prior to me arriving
so I couldnt start it from cold, which made me think maybe was he covering something up I got in and the temp was at 90*.
The drive was fantastic, effortless in every gear, great around the bends, and very comfortable. I checked for water in the footwells and it appeared that the doors already had some kind of sealent on them so I would guess they had already been done. Obviously I couldnt tell if there was any problem with coilpacks or MAF as that would need ownership to notice them.
The only problem occured at the end of the drive. Whilst chatting to the sales guy in the car on the forecourt the temp went up to 100*, he popped inside for a minute and I popped the bonnet to have a look around and let the turbo cool. Well the fans didnt kick in and when I got back in the car too turn it off the temp was 110-115* and I would hear the coolant bubbling. I pointed this out to the sales guy and he said not to worry, we would sort this before it gets picked up once sold IMO it needs sorting now, before it does some damage.
I dont know much about these engines, but unless they are bulletproof, I know overheating isnt a great thing on any car.
Anyhow, I then tried to test drive a 150 tdi at the SEAT dealer but they said that they wouldnt let me test drive it unless I wanted to buy that specific car. So unless they get a Platinum grey tdi (unlikely) I wont be test driving anything there. What a strange dealership?
So this red Cupra R isnt for me, but I may have been interested had there been no cooling issues as there are not many for sale near me. Silver or platinum is my prefered choice but one in excellent/mint condition is more a priority.
