finally got to the bottom of the problem i was having with my cupra

basically, my car was standard, except a 007 dump valve, but the car felt really gutless, and when diagnosed, was only producing 4psi.

after changing the MAF, swapping n75 valve, checking dump valve, swithced ECU to a remapped one, checked all hoses and vacuum pipes. even went as far as bypassing the the n75 so turbo had no boost control. basically checked everything we could think of!!

all of these did not solve the problem and remained at 4psi when logging

took it to owen developments where i know a really good mechanic, especially with these engines, and he got to the bottom of it in an hour

turns out that the cat is blocked, and needs replacing. this was obvious when he loosened the bolts on the downpipe from the turbo, allowing gases to escape and suddenly the power shot up!

just thought id post this incase anyone else has the same problem

many thanks also to TBCupraT and bezzaboy for all ur help (sorry for the oscar award type speach, should of thanked god really too. i think im going to cry!! )

nope, no fault codes, well... once a lambda reading below threshold came up, but didnt come up again after being deleted on vagcom. it ran perfectly too. no miss fires, or anything. it just drove like a naturally aspirated 1.6 (it was only producing 112bhp as it was)

the thing that now makes it seem obvious is when it was on a ramp, u can see all the down pipe and cat were really black, from where thay had been getting so hot, and after the cat it all looks ok. not so obvious if ur not looking for it tho

great, well foound, i still reckon my CAT is holding my power back. and still think mine might be blocked or crumbling inside.

Well done mate..

Glad we did all we could to get to the bottom of it. But when we run out of things to do it needs to go off to the pro's.

Well that's another thing to add to the list of possible boost issues. ;)

BlueFlame ?!?!?!?!?

i just spoke to the mechanic who is gonna help me out with changing the cat/down pipe.

he used to work for saab so has done loads of work on turbo motors.

he said that the problem i have can occur if

a) turbo blows, covering the cat in oil and crap that then gets baked on

b)the car has fueling problems, normally over fueling, as unburnt fuel can travel through and out the engine where it ignites in the exhaust manifold, turbo, down pipe and cat, causing the cat to break down

he said that my car may have been subjected to (b), over fueling, perhaps caused by the coil packs going

maybe the owner of the car before me had the coil packs go and continued to drive it for some time before it was sorted?!?!
