Anyone going to Silverstone this weekend (6th/7th May) for the first round of the FIA GT Championship?

There will be a welcome return for ex-Seat ETCC driver Frank Diefenbacher

 in an Aston Martin DBR9. This, after a long recovery from a horrific accident at the beginning of last season in the WTCC in a Ford Focus.

The GT1/GT2 race has a pretty impressive field, and the new GT3 race actually looks better. Vipers, Ascari KZ-1s, Maseratis, Lambos, Panoz, Corvettes, Ferraris & Porkers, what more could you want. Apart from better weather than is currently forecast :(

The timetable shows practice sessions all day on the Friday.
Anyone know if this will be accessible to the general public ?

I would expect so although the Silverstone site only has prices for Saturday & Sunday. Ring them to check. Probably limited access like on Formula 1 testing days, just around the Luffield loop area.

Main benefit of going on Friday is the 'Supercar parade laps' with whatever exotic machinery not in the Gumball 3000 that has travelled up from the RAC headquarters in London.

Went on Sunday as planned, that Murciélago sounded superb, as did the Corvette and the Ascari. The Astons were pretty impressive.

My photography was limited to stationary vehicles........

Hmmm, somehow I knew yours were going to be pretty good!!

Unfortunately Frank Diefenbacher didn't get the glorious return he may have been hoping for, in fact he never got to drive in the race - his team-mate managed to spin the car going over the start line  and didn't complete a single lap :headhurt:
