Right,

Hello to all the Leon Cupra R owners, from the Mk4 section

My mate wants to buy a Cupra R.

Ive told him the differences between the 210 and 225, he's got about 9k to spend.

He knows the both map to 260ish bhp. what 1/4 mile are we looking at 14 dead? at 100mph?

What sort of mileage do the engines go on for?

Would one with 60k be ok, 70k 80k? etc when do they blow up!!

When is the cambelt due? is it 40k? or 60k?

Also how many Cupra R's were made in total, does anyone know?

Thanks in advance

Adam

Engines are fairly strong, and as long as theyre looked after they'll go on for ages! Easily over 100k.

If the belt is the same as the LC (someone will say if it is or not) then its not due til 120k, however most people get them done between 60-80k to be on the safe side.

My Curpa R (210) done 80K miles in it's first 3 years without missing a beat. I wouldn't worry too much about a high mileage as long as it looks as though it's been looked after and the history is documented with a FSH

I changed the cambelt at 60K

14.0 at 100 has been achieved with a stage 1 mapped car yes.

As to numbers, they were produced 02/52/03/53/04/54/05/55/06 so a span of around 4 years in production.

I think there were about 1000 cars per year or so

Upto March 2005, this article says about 2500 cars. Add another 1500 on top or so for the remainder of its time.

This article also...

''The Cupra R is rare; it sells in hundreds rather than thousands each year''

Safe to assume less than 5000 then so quite a rare car. I'd imagine around 10% would be written off by now also?

Cambelt - change at 60k, engines go for ages, depends completely on whether the car has been looked after, regularly serviced cam belt changed etc etc. It is hard to tell when you get a second hand car how it has been treated, but a test drive should give a good feel, fsh is a must and also the condition of the car tells a lot.

Mileage - since 03 I have not heard of an LCR doing over 130k miles, but those that are near from what I have heard are still going well.

I'm not sure if you could tell how well a car has been treated, espectially as modern cars have rev limiters. I rag my car to within an inch of its life a lot of the time, but it has a fsh and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Whether this means that it will only last to 100,000 miles rather than 150,000 miles I don't know. But I also don't care, as I have an aftermarket warranty that will fix anything (including turbo and clutch). I'd recommend getting one, its only £20 a month

Agreed on the cambelt, I changed mine at 60,000 too
