also i aint one of these that drive ro9und with their front fogs on but when i pull out the switch i can only have both front and rear fogs on not just front fogs like most cars with this type switch?

also i have been looking at i direct replacement centre exhaust section, have found one for a mk3 golf 2.0 gti. are they the same ????

can anyone help me

Your ignition should have 3 positions:
1. Off
2. Accessories
3. Starter motor on
So when you turn the key, you take it to position 3 and as soon as the car starts you let go of the key and it returns to position 2 with the engine running. You can put the key to position 2 for accessories to function without the engine running.

The fog switch should have 2 positions. Pull out one stop and the front fogs come on; pull out fully to the second stop then both front and rear come on.

Not sure who still makes replacement centre sections - I have a Supersprint one on mine - replacing the centre silencer with a straight through pipe.

when the key is at position 2 will the dash lights be on?

because most cars have an off positon then a acc postion which lets you have the stereo on and you can remove the key then a ignition on which lights up the dash warning lights then starter motor postion which springs back

volksbits do the centre section but only listed under mk3 golf

From memory, the dash lights come on in Pos 2. Which you can run the stereo/climate control-defrost. Could be wrong about the lights, but i'm sure they do?!

If still not sure in 15, i'll go check mine. Sure they do though, then go off after a few seconds.

Then obviously Pos 3, is Starter motor, which then springs back to Pos 2.

As for the pipe, really can't help, sorry.

Sorry didn't get back to you last night, blame it on the girlfriend. However, did check this morning and;

on Position 2, the Oil Pressure, Brake System and Battery Charge warning lights stay on, what I should have made more clear is that the amber cautions should go out - in my case on my CS16v, it's just the ABS light that comes on for literally a second, then disappears.

What jcs356 said about the fogs is spot on though.

Hope that helps.

VW group cars tend not to have an 'accessories' type position as in the past most of the stuff was wired up with a permanently live supply - i.e. you could turn the radio on without the key in the ignition. It always used to wind me up that you had to have the key in the ignition in other makes.

I guess position 2 (providing you haven't engaged the starter via 3) is in effect an accessories position, only problem is that you can't take the key out from there. What accessories are you trying to run? You ought to be able to find a permanent live pretty easy if you don't mind tinkering behind the dash.
