Did a search for this and couldn't find anything, the wife's Ibiza had a problem a year or so back where the key got stuck in the driver's door, didn't operate the locks and couldn't be removed. Bit of a bind, had to drive round for a few days with a key stuck in the door while Seat got new locks ordered. Wasn't too bad, car was still secure and you could operate the central locking from the passenger door, just a bit of a bind.

Now it's happened again, the local (non-Seat) garage says it's common on Ibizas.

Is it?

And is it easy to fix without going to a Seat main dealer.

The gf's polo had exactly the same problem.

It's so common that VAG even do a repair kit to fix it apparently.

My tame mechanic fixed it without to much hassle, but he said that it was a pain in the @rse to do (i.e. fiddly).

open door.. remove rubber grommet on leading edge.. theres also few 'tor-x' type screw heads to be undone.. youll also need to remove the inner door-liner panel..handle comes out....(watch you dont lose spring when you take it off;).. bits are easily interchangeable... refit in reverse sequence...

Hey Brummy... done what you said... ive noticed a few cracked bits of aliminium within the doorhandle near the bigger spring..that holds the rod that connects to the main part of the lock... that turns with the barrel...that holds all these things into place...

Was wondering if this was the same problem you had?? if so what do i ask for... or should i take it to a dealer... or should i go to the wreckers..?? and should i get the whole handle wif all the extras attached??

if it wasnt the same prob ?? wat was your prob..?

The first time this happened to Mrs Muzorewa's car she took it to a friendly Seat dealership and was charged about £500.00 to remove stuck key, strip doors, sort locks etc. That was a couple of years ago.

Now with the same problem she engaged a mobile locksmith who removed the lock WITHOUT stripping the inner door panel, switched the driver & passenger door bits (so the passenger door now doesn't work on the key) and sorted it for £38.00.

These are the damaged bits: Knackered bits which are available from your Seat or VW parts department for buttons. ;)

i got mine from a scrapyard.. luckily had a mk2 ibiza in, but the locks are much the same as a mk3 polo etc.. gonna pop down a few scrappies soon to see if i can get a mk3 polo rear door handle to enable me to theoritally 'de-lock' the passenger door anyway.....
