Fault: wheel speed sensor

Hi all

I have the below problem show up on vagcom

Address 03: ABS Brakes Labels: 1K0-907-379-MK60-F.LBL
Part No SW: 1K0 907 379 AA HW: 1K0 907 379 AA
Component: ESP FRONT MK60 0102
Coding: 0004738
Shop #: WSC 06441

1 Fault Found:
00287 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Right (G44)
003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent


I have the 3 orange lights on the dash, wondering if this can be fixed on the drive or is this going to break the bank (how much to fix?) ?

Most sensors are generally around the £20 mark and are usually just held in with a small bolt. You might have to hammer/smash the old one out though.

Just nuts and bolts and a plug to change the sensor. You may want to check the ABS sensor ring. It's like a toothed encoder disc. If there is rust buildup between the teeth it can make the sensor throw an error. Just wire brush the sensor ring/disc.

Also take note of the gap between the ring and the sensor. You may want to use a feeler gauge to set the new one up with the correct gap.

How do you get that? Usually takes a bit of investigating to discover that one.

Sensor ring is part of the hub and bearing. Most likely its the ring as thats what problem i had. About a £70 job id say. No guide is needed its a simple job, wheel off, disc off, four bolts off bearing and hub and then replace. (Not forgetting the centre bolt too)

New hub - job done.

I had the same fault last week, replaced the hub and sensor, all ok.

I had the same fault, replaced with a new sensor, it got lunched by rusted up hub ring!
So, replaced new hub (and another sensor) and all good once codes we're cleared.

The Torx bolt holding the hub on is quite big (I borrowed tool from local garage) and MEGA tight.
