One off vortex...

TT... 480whp... read on

"We took my friend's 2001 TT ( which did 486whp before ) to the dyno and intalled a rising rate regulator to keep the car from going lean up on top. We lost some power in the process ( we were only able to get 471whp vs. the 486 we got before, though it could also be because we left the air filter on and the last time when we took it off it gained 20whp.. ) but the A/F ratio was MUCH safer ( mid 11's vs. high 12's before, his is narrowband so the ecu is blind to fueling at wot ) and the powerband was so beautiful it made my shead a tear ( unfortunately I don't have a graph to post up. ).
Anyways.... he went to the track afterwards and in his very first run..... KABOOOOMMMM.... His transfer blew to pieces. So much for indestructable. "

480whp:wtf: that's got to be 550bhp+at the flywheel? i should be ok then as i won't be getting near those figures;) hpa run 550bhp cars with no trouble but i guess anyone running 500+ are gonna find the limits:cry:

I believe so from their thread yes.
Its the transfer box bit which let go tho, which would be transferring power to the rear wheels....
It did'nt let go on the dyno in 2wd, it let go at the track (1/4 mile)

With that much power suddenly getting thrown though the system that was designed for half the power anything could blow though i guess. If i ever mention that i am thinking about taking my Audi for some drag action pm me those photos Bill.

I thought of yours Dan when I saw the vortex piccies..
:-o

But the area you relieved is'nt whats failed on his tho... looks like gear failure and debris found its way out? Or case gave first maybe then meshing of gears led to gear failure? or..... dunno....
