Failed MOT

Im new here so here we go ,
took my 1996 ibiza 1.4 for an mot the other day and it failed on the emissions.
I changed the spark plugs and HT leads, as the car had a slight misfire anyway, it runs loads better now and feels better to drive, but took it back for the retest and its failed again but this time the readings are even higher so now im stuck on what to do .
Do any of you guys have any ideas??

Check the air filter is clean. Also could run some redex through the fuel system, sometimes cleans it up enough. After that its going into exhaust itself.

It will be the Lamda sensor, change that and i bet it will come down.

I had a simular problem with my Golf Gti, emmisions were through the roof.

Put new Lamda on and it sailed its second test.

Cheers guys just had it down to a mates garage plugged it in and it is indeed the lambda sensor thats faulty so yet another trip to the parts shop, only had it a few months and its geting on my nerves already lol

where is the lamba sensor??? is there anyway i can test mine???

It's on the exhaust, near the cat. Not sure whether it's upstream or downstream of the cat.

Upsteam on a 1.4 in the single branch part of the manifold iirc

if its the same as mine then its before the cat and i think the only way to test would be to connect car to a diagnostic machine but i may be wrong
