crap it didnt pass the reasons being:

rear exhaust Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits

near and offside front macpherson strut has excessive movement at the upper attachment

he said something like £50 for an engine treatment that should work, whats everyone think about that? i know this is a common problem for failing how did eveyrone sort it out????? i havnt got long to sort it out

im gonna order coilovers (prob tonite) because they cost £50 to fit on front and to change the strut he said something like £40 each side so thats £80! or would i need more parts if i try to fit on the coilovers?

You want to try the top mount rubbers first, a far cheaper fix although coilovers and new top mounts for the win!!!

Lambda problem i am unsure of, couldnt tell you a suitable fix.

One other thing to note is that an ibiza is based on a polo and they get an extra limit on the play in the top mounts due to the way they are designed. Worth talking to them but try top mount bushes/rubbers first.

also make sure your engine is red hot when you take it to the MOT place

''Sometimes an apparent lambda sensor problem is not really a faulty sensor. An air leak in the intake or exhaust manifold or even a fouled spark plug, for example, will cause the lambda sensor to give a false lean indication. The sensor reacts only to the presence or absence of oxygen in the exhaust. It has no way of knowing where the extra oxygen came from. So keep that in mind when diagnosing oxygen sensor problems.''

crap thats not good news then, basically i need to change everything right? ahhh man, would VAG-COM be able to diagnose this or would that just read as "lambda sensor problem" and not give specific to what it exactly is?

ok i just spoke to a mechanic and he said that the engine fuel treatment that the mechanic offered me for £50 wont work for this lambda reader thing and i shouldnt bother with it, its prob a dirty lambda sensor so i should take it off clean it and put it back in and go in the mot with my car piping hot, i cant help to think that there is somthing more to this though either a cat change or engine treatment or something!! grrr its driving me mad!

also he said the top strut mounts are £15 each side, ima check GSF now.

top mounts will take you all of about 30 minutes to do, and with the bearings i think mine were something like 30 pounds for the fronts from euro car parts tho.

Getting the engine hot makes the CAT actually work, as it does naff all when its cold thats why hell be telling you to get it hot before you go... and i guess cleaning the sensor cant be a bad thing.

Also check to see if there are any holes in the exhaust... get a mate to rev and let off while your under it and see if you can hear any blowing sounds, that indicates a hole

haha my car passed now...w00t! i took it to another garage yesterday and done a quick emissions test and all was perfect (and i didnt change anything in the car apart from the suspension lol) ...and i tested it today at the same place and it passed on that but the front mounts still have excessive movement and he was gonna fail me ...i changed the mounts, bearings and added coilovers 60-65mm drop all round so i dunno there is still movement.

anyway he kinda got sick of me annoying him (told him how ima student with debt blah blah) so he passed me lol. gna go get my camber aligned now and thats it all done, ill post up some pics of the drop when i can get to them.

thanks everyone.
