Fading ovni LC

Fading onvi LC

I have a 5yr old onvi LC and have noticed that the paint is fading except on the filler cap/spoilers eg anything plastic is still the original shade. Is there a product on the market which will restore it to the original condition or will I have to put up with it - (or re-spray which may be a possible option).

Fading colours underneath the clearcoat will require a repray. Ask RobM for his experience. There seems to have been a few Onvi's reported to be doing this recently.

Yup. My 03 plate Ovni LCR had a full respray a few months back because of paint fade. The problem was, it was impossible to paint individual areas as the bodyshop couldn't get a good, even colour match. If they matched one panel, it would be different to the next, as every panel had faded differently. The original plan was to just paint the front arch and rear quarter panel on one side, as that was the obvious area of fading, but that idea quickly went out of the window once they started.

They (the bodyshop) even had the rep of the manufacturer of the OE paint Seat use come out and look at the car as it was being such a pain.

In the end it had a full respray as it was the only way to get a good, even match all over the car. I have to say, the difference in colour when it came out was amazing! :D

I love my car and I love the colour it's in. It suits the car, it looks good, it turns head, everybody knows the LCR as being yellow and it really sets the car off nicely.

But, unless I was buying a nearly new car, I'd not buy yellow again.

Looks like it's gonna be a full re-spray then, if I get yellow again I suppose it will just go the same way in 4 or 5 years time! so I think I'll go with my original plan - black 'n red metal-flake, A mate can do it for £400 inc filling the 3 or 4 small dents (caused by next door's wheelie bin lid blowing open :censored:)

Correct.

A detailer will be able to restore it to its natural yellow for a fraction of the cost.

I have done a few restorations and would be only to happy to help. PM me if your interested.

Cheers.;)

A year on, never got round to the re-spray but it appears that it may not be the paint fading but more like the lacquer going milky, a 2 - 3" chunk of lacquer above the door has gone missing   but the paint underneath appears to be almost the same shade as the plastic parts (filler cap, bumpers & spoiler). If this is the case is it possible to just remove the lacquer (somehow?) without having a full re-spray.

this is interesting as my ovni mk1 leon is causing me some problems too, ive asked on edition38.com , and am told im correct to use megs paint cleaner, autoglym SRP and EGP, but havent settled on a good quality wax yet. my main query is how can i bring the colour back when there is a lacquer sat on top of it? its booked in at a bodyshop next week to have the rear bumper painted after it was reversed into, the guy there says it just needs a machine polish to get it looking good again. im told some collinite sealant will keep her looking good, which wax do i need chaps??
