Model Year 24/25 Facelift VZ3 and spacesaver

Just about to place my order for the VZ3 and two different dealerships have given me conflicting info on ordering a spacesaver to go in the back.

Dealer number one says it CAN be ordered at the time of placing the car order (even though it doesnt appear as an option on the configurator)
Dealer number 2 says it cant be ordered cos it wont fit in the back cos of the driveshaft for the AWD system...

I'll calling false on both cos unless Cupra were to be producing a completely different bodyshell for the AWD car then all cars should be identical until the engine and drivetrain is fitted...

As suspected, and pretty much confirmed, from initial research on here, my theory was the the Brembo's were the issue for the same reason as on my previous Fords - the spacesaver wouldnt clear the caliper which is why the Focus ST edition didnt have one cos of the caliper issue so as others have alluded to, in the event of a puncture you throw the spare onto the back if the puncture appears on the front wheels and move the rear wheel to the front temporarily....

With that in mind, if I am forced to source the spacesaver post build then will both it and the polystyrene surround fit in the boot without any issues?

I know the Senheiser sub fits within the spacesaver and is locked in with a cog like retainer so I have no worries there - just need to be sure the VZ3 boot will accomodate it?

I changed the OE discs on mine to Pagid Grooved and Dimpled discs and Pagid Street+ pads and they have improved the stopping power which wasn`t bad to start with but with the extra 60 bhp I decided it could be improved, that may change again if Santa remembers some 4 pots!

Update, got the part numbers for the spare wheel & accessories and no way I am paying what it being quoted for all the components - thats what Ebay is for!

Some parts I will have to suck up and pay but I have found the spacesaver itself on Ebay for £190 and probably find the jack cheaper too...

Just wanted to ask (if anyone knows) are there equivilent VW/Audi parts I can source instead that are exactly the same products? I know stuff like the polystyrene surround I am gonna have to shell out for as its a new model but the rest of it is surely generic across the VW brand?

Hi

Sorry to resurrect your old thread.

Did you event get any success with ordering the kit?

I have a VZ1 333 and struggling to find any decent information on whether I can have a spare or not.

I sourced 99% of the part numbers (most if not all are also VW/Audi parts) just waiting to get the car next weekend and I'll then assess whether the boot can take the 18" spacesaver without affecting the boot floor too much, getting the right polystyrene surround is the issue cos there are about 5 difference options (if its possible)
I shall follow up once I know more!

I’m thinking about buying a new Formentor VZ1 333 to replace a Leon VZ2.
The Leon has a space saver and I’m keen to have one in the Formentor too, in fact the lack of one is a deal breaker for me.
I’ve had two punctures and been able to get home with the space saver The tyres were repairable (£15) which would not be possible after using the tyre repair gunk.

Well picked the car up Saturday and had a brief look yesterday in the boot, I'm not seeing a reason that a spare wont fit in there - the subwoofer is there in the polystyrene surround so I'm sure that the spacesaver will fit in there with the right surround added.

That’s good to hear. I’ve managed to pick up most of my kit. Still to buy the surrounds though. Fingers crossed it all fits then.

I emailed Cupra to ask for clarification.
Here is the reply.

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your interest in the CUPRA Formentor VZ1 or VZ2 333PS 4Drive model and the compatibility of a space-saver spare wheel.

Based on the information available, it appears that the space saver spare wheel is not compatible with the 333PS version due to the vehicle's drivetrain configuration and design. Features such as the all-wheel-drive system and larger brake components may prevent the fitting of a space saver spare wheel.

We understand that having a space saver is imperative for you, and we recommend discussing this matter directly with your preferred CUPRA Retailer. They can provide you with the most accurate and detailed guidance regarding your requirements and explore potential solutions if necessary.

It’s all very confusing. The spare wheels mostly appear to be the same but with different part numbers and prices.
Hopefully Cupra Jon can give a definitive answer soon lol.

I had the boot out yesterday and I cant see why it cant accomodate a spacesaver, the subwoofer is held in place by the same means as the spacesaver so I guess its just a case of ordering the wheel and then finding the correct polystyrene surround that fits the boot (and there are half a dozen different ones)
Boot floor height wont be greatly impacted either cos the spacesaver depth isnt much more than that of the sub...
I had a spacesaver with subwoofer enclosed in my Audi S3 and this all looks exactly the same as said Audi.

Cupra wont go anywhere near this cos the "official" line is that the spacesaver is not compatible due to brake disc and caliper size on the front wheels - nothing more. They dont factor in that anyone with common sense would (if faced with a puncture in the front wheels) put the spacesaver on the back and then temporarily replace the punctured tyre with the removed one off the rear...:sneaky:
