I know it old but I was out in the car today as it started to rain so getting a little dim, I noticed the lights were still off (well DRL were on) and the needles were lit, the lights then came on shortly after and the dials lit up too. now I couldnt tell the dials were slightly lit with the needles but the needles themselves were illuminated.

My olf mk5 GTI did this too.

I thought that but I checked with Nicklaus who has it on his pre fl and he says he has the large mfd in red with bluetooth so hoped it was possible.

My FL FR does that... the lights wont be on at all (none xenons) but the needles will be illuminated white in dim lighting, usually shortly after the lights come on (auto lights) and the whole dash lights up as you said.

Yeah seems to be FL only and vagcom or similar lead.
Someone on here has it on his 09 pre fl Leon although he has the red mfd the software must be the same as FL.

Needle turns red when you get to the red line ... now that would be quite cool, maybe an idea for the instrument boffins at VAG eh ...

Could you guys point me in the right direction to find where to get a lead and software to do this? Also if there is a source of info on all the features this opens up on a 59 plate Cupra... Thanks.

I've been watching this thread with interest, as when I collected the new Cupra in March I was fully expecting the needle sweep to be activated. It was on both the Cupra and Cupra R I had test driven previously, (although I couldn't get it on my previous 08 plate model).

It wasn't activated on the car when it arrived, and to be honest, it was a couple of weeks before I noticed, expecially considering it hadn't been available on my previous car.

I had to take the car back to the supplying dealer earlier this week for a couple of PDI/warranty type issues, and asked them to activate the staging whilst they had it 'plugged in'. When I got the car back I was greeted with 'the needle sweep can't be enabled, there is no where to activate it'. And they were adamant, despite me telling them I knew it could be done. If I found out how, or could give them any car registrations it was enabled on, would I call them back and they'd look into it:rolleyes:

I dropped it round to a local independent who advertises on here yesterday, and he did the job in less than a minute

I called the dealer back and spoke to the Service guy I'd been dealing with, and gave him the exact details. No apology or anything, but just a 'I'm going to sound really clever when I tell them that in the workshop, aren't I' reply. I suppose asking them to activate the staging doesn't appear in their every day VAGCOM script, and therefore comes under the 'too difficult' category.

The only saving grace is that it's unlikely to ever be going back there. They happen to be the supplying dealer who came up with the right deal, not either of my nearest two dealers :)
