They are only test mules, but the rules that dictate wings sizes ill remain.. will take some getting used to visually!

I think they will take a bit of getting used to. Some angles they look ok....ish. Other angles, they're very ugly.

Welcome back to the slick tyre though.

the honda is not anywhere near the new regs. the rear wing is illegal for starters as its too wide.

The BMW nearer the new rules.

one of the big changes not clear is that the extra little winglets and air guides etc have been banned. so should be less of ugly bits such as the dumbo wings.

oh and i seriously doubt that those pics are totally genuine. The tyres for starters look like they are airbrushed.

I'm sure there are really sound aerodynamic reasons why they settled on huge front/tiny rear wings as the new standard, but they don't half make the cars look daft.

Mind you, I think the Williams FW16 was the last good-looking F1 car, so I might be a bit behind the times.

Hmmm its going to take some getting used to. I don't mind the current crop of cars and they way that the looked (apart from the slicks)
Not sure about the tiny rear wings and huge front ones though. Bring back slicks, smallish wings, V10s with 900bhp, no TC or driver aids. That should be fun!!

I can see the front wings getting ripped off so easily

I think they should soak half the track, removing all the grip

I'm sure they could of gotten the same results and made the cars look appealing at the same time, half the point of F1 and why people still watch it is that the cars look nice becuase not for the actual content of racing....

there are significant other changes, eg diffuser and kers...

and im not so happy about how many teams are 'joining up', force india appear to have agreed to to not just engines from mercedes but kers and other intellectual information too.

More needs to be done to help independant teams.

Looked on the F1 website and the pic can be blown up by clicking on the hyperlink which says "click for a larger view" and the title says an "interim" Honda F1 car. So I don't think that is intentionally breaking the rules. Perhaps Honda are just waiting for the arrival of their 2009 shape cars.

Can I say on the shape they look more like how a single seater would look in a junior formula.

I toyally agree that the car looks gross with regard to the immense difference in proportion between the front and rear wing. What I know about aerodynamics and the effects can be put on a first class stamp but even to someone like me when I look at the front wing I just think "your might just be asking for it to be ripped away if you get too close to the car your trying to ovetake". It just seems to look like a hazzard to you and other drivers. And as for the small rear wing, can I just ask how much air flow exactly will be generated from a much narrower wing and how fast these cars are expected to go as a result?

lol i was never saying they are breaking rules. you can do what you like in testing, put a rubber duck on it, or a jet engine for all i care. I was just pointing out that its a hybrid car.

from what i can see the FIA are trying to reduce rear aero downforce, and then allow a wider lower front wing in the hope its less affected by the car in front.

I think they should look at indy cars where they allow limited use of ground effect.

this would only really be the case on higher downforce tracks. On lower down force set up they can can simply run more aggressive wing angles. However what it does mean in that the wing is less efficient and may provide a better slip stream, possibly higher which with the lower wider front wings means overtaking is easier..
Where it does limit downforce, which would be high downforce tracks anyway, it would then slow them down around corners and allow for higher top speeds which woudl result in longer braking zones; again good for overtaking.

One interesting thought is that many people dont appreciate that its not always the most talented driver thats the fastest, as how the drivers style suits the formula is a factor. However i do accept that some driving styles, (eg MS) allows for greater flexibility and adaption to the formula. Frentzen for example was quicker than MS is other formulas.. Mansell was great at grabbing a F1 car and thrashing it where it worked well, where the car was not near perfect he was not finessed enough to drive round issues.
But anyway my point is, we could see a slight shift in some drivers performances.
