Extended warranty

Hi folks

I know this has been discussed before but not for a while from what I could see.

So.....

The warranty on my Ibiza runs out next February and was wondering what people are currently thinking about extended warranties?

The latest post I could find seemed to be implying that SEAT have jacked the cost of this right up! Just nipped to Warranty Direct's site and got a quote from them and my car, even for Franchised cover, was around £278 and this "included" covering the aircon (well the major components). Read all the detail buff and the cover appears quite extensive, even the exclusions don't appear "that" bad.

I know that modern cars are pretty reliabale these days, but had a horrendous catalogue of problems with mine in the first year!!!

So questions are:

- Anyone got any recent experiences with SEAT's extended cover (IE. level of cover, or good/bad experiences claiming etc.)?

- Anyone used Warranty Direct? and if so, any comments.

- Any other suggestions re - companies for extended cover (preferably from personal experience)?

at least you did ya homework and checked the inclusions and exclusions

only thing id add is see what they do in procedures for claims ? i.e. dealer only and or genuine/oe spec parts etc

you dont wanna be landed with a big bill and 6 months claiming it back like some of them

*add* saying that from some reviews i seem they are almost too good to be true

If you choose not to use a franchised dealer and instead one of their "network" dealers (IE. independents) you save about £20 on the price and they settle the bill direct.

ye just had a search for some 'real' people ideas and quotes

seems like a good un to me - but as said just watch for the little loopholes like gaskets/consumables etc just to be safe

shame SEAT have pumped theirs up as it was one of the best in the business

While we're on this subject, how are water leaks covered bywarranty/extended warranty? I read they were only covered for the first year, which is ridiculous for obvious reasons.

I got 2 years RAC warranty for 290 with key cover thrown in and 0% interest for paying monthly.

Its gold cover, air con, turbo etc

+ can get it serviced at SEAT recommended intervals by non-dealer garages (instead of every 5000 miles which some warrantys insist on)

I think this is related to "water leaks" from the window washer system (front/back). Probably because they have had so many complaints / repairs in this area. Must admit it's one of the weakest designs I've ever come across. One of my pipes came loose under the bonnet and no rear washer! Done under warranty, it's a bugger to get at in the TDI even if you know where the pipe runs. They tried to claim that it had frozen and burst the joint. I pointed out that because of all the travelling I do up North, that I always run it with 50% winter screen wash in from October onwards ... and anyway, the car had been garaged for the week prior to the leak! First car I've EVER had this problem with, good God... when I think where my Subaru used to go and how cold that used to get.... it makes me laugh.

When I got my car from Seat it was out of its 3 year standard warranty so they put a years RAC on it for me. When this expired RAC wrote to be direct and made me the £290 2 year offer.

Thats good to hear, as m runs out in feb, but a had 6 months Seat warrenty fired on when i bought the car, and with the probs i'm having so far i think i'll need it!!!!

So £2500 on the platinum policey would'nt cover you? and there's no limit on the amount of annual claims - up to the value of the vehicle.

Good point.

Though Warranty Direct covers you for £5,000, or the value of your car (which ever is the higher) on their Gold cover and a similar premium.

Though I suspect £2,500 would cover pretty much anything. Not like I could be as unlucky as to have a second engine go pop!

My car is out of warranty by age in January 06, although it's already on 64k so outside on miles.

No contact from Seat or the dealer to offer to empty my wallet of a few hundred quid. I find that odd - Subaru were very quick to write and offer extended warranty options. Maybe Seat expect my car to fall apart?

What I plan to do is take the £45 I've been paying each month for my SMT contract and transfer it to an ING account instead. Hopefully I can build up a little fund to cover services and the like.

I'll get the car up to 80k and see how it's coping before deciding on changing.

As well as Warranty Direct offering 13 months cover for the price of 12... I asked for a quote to be sent me nearer the end of manufacturers warranty and gave them an Email address and a telephone no. Surprise, surprise, a phone call a couple of days latter offering me the same deal as O/L but with a Christmas 10% discount if I purchase before the year end. At £215 for their GOLD cover, I think that's a good price. So I said "put the details in the post". Might well go for this...

I'm looking at gettin an extended warranty for my car, just wondering if anyone knows where the companys stand on modifications?

eg if my clutch starts slipping, are they gonna turn round and refuse to pay because of my remap?

Also, why can't you claim for the failure twice?

Hi... I think you will find most (if not all) extended warranties say something along the lines of "Only the components originally fitted as standard by the manufacturer are covered". So basically any mods from standard spec are not covered. But then again, that's pretty much the same with the manufacturers warranty.

Though an interesting comment about the re-map. I suspect the only answer to that, would be to give em a call and ask.
