Experiences of cheap coilovers

Looking for a set of cheap coilovers for my mk3.

Anyone know where I can get a set of cheap coilovers say up to £250

Has anyone heard of a company called Ta Technix???

You get what you pay for.

If you want the car to be lower than standard then cheap coilovers are fine, although how long they will last is another matter. It's likely they wont be made from non-corrosive materials and will therefore not allow for easy adjustment in the future.

If you want the car to maintain a decent level of comfort while being low and handling well, then you simply have to spend more money. My experience of cheap coilovers is that the ride is rock solid, crashy and not adjustable for damping.

In short, unless it's for cosmetic purposes only, save more money and buy better suspension.

If you want to go cheap buy a half decent set of lowering springs and dampers. Although not adjustable they will give you a decent ride and lower your car a bit.

or , why not wait till a set pop up in the for sale section , you will get a lot more for your money , a set of spax rsx coilovers went for £250 the other day

IIRC a guy on ClubGTI was selling some el cheapo ones (Jamex/vmax??) for around £300. Can't for the life of me remember who though. I think Bill got some for the Lupo and i know Olly20vT got some for his Ibiza but was sent the wrong ones so opted to sell them on and get KW's.

Jamex here on ebay for £300 + £10 p&p

ive got the Ta technix ones, aswell of alot of other passat owners and polo/lupo people.

Ive heard no known problems,.

Ride comfort is fine on smooth roads, abit harsh at times, but they are coilies,

Mines wound down to 1cm above he arch and theres around 3" thread left!

Im well happy with mine. only cost £230

well thats stumped me now i was looking at getting the H&R cup kit, but not sure now because of those jamex coilovers, decisions decisions lol!!! anybody with an ibiza running those coilovers that beaker has shown??? any feedback guys? sorry to hi jack thread a little cheers

I Bought Cheap Coilovers because i reali wantd my car lowered because it was liek a 4x4 and wanted a little better handling but wasnt reali bothered about that, just the hight difference and i wasnt planning on keeping the car long but am now lol . ive had them for about 4-5months now and no problems soo far at all (fingers crossed) but i have heard of the trouble of adjusting them but havnt had that problem yet with my set.
They are Jmex full adjustble 20mm-135mm allround £250 delivered.

Ok, sounds good guys, looks like I am going to buy some of those cheap ta technix/jtec coilovers, you really cant go wrong for £250

I was speaking to a guy from performance fx and he said that all budget coilover packages such as Jtec /ta technix /supersprint / FK etc all come from 3 manufactures in holland and germany.

He was saying that all the coilover packages are the same, use the same components and are just painted with different colours, different stickers and different prices.

Sounds to me, that we are getting ripped of buying coilovers from people such as FK for a different colour paint and stickers

I'd still class FK as cheap coilovers though.

My mate has some FK Highsports on a mk2 golf and complains that the ride is too harsh.

I see exactly what yopu mean, although it does sound far fetched, how much really can there coilovers can differ when they are all produced in a very small handfull of factories???

I bought these exact coilovers, TA technix about 2 months back for my polo gti. They are suprisingly good for their price and you can drop the car literally on to the floor if you like! but a word of warning to you, they arent dampening adjustable & when i had mine lowered i still got quite a bit of body roll causing scrubbing, i raised the car to roughly 80mm both back & front and still encountered some rubbing (my arches werent rolled though & i was running wide wheels 7.5 & 7's on a polo 15"), also on the polo the setup didnt have helper springs on the front which I think caused the majority of the problems

Oh really, did it roll quite a lot, i though that coilovers would come with uprated springs and dampers which would provent this??

Is dampening adjustment really needed??

I wouldnt say its needed, if the ride is ok then there is no need, the ones i got just seemed quite soft

like i said they may be different to the polo version i bought, the fronts didnt have helper springs which i imagine would cause the problem..on top of that the polo itself rolls ALOT so you may not have any of the issues i did!

Are all coilover springs the same size or do they differ quite a bit? I only ask as i may be able to use my spax springs on these struts as theres nothing wrong with the spax springs its just the struts that are shite
