Ahh right really I always thought it was just a visual check on diesels for smoke!

Might sound like a rough way about it but can you not give the cat a good few hits and leave it in situe? Should have the same effect should it not?

You could hollow the CAT out with a bar and a hammer but then you can't guarantee that you get it all out possibly causing a blockage in the future, plus you have a chamber for exhaust gases to collect disrupting the flow of air.

Right no worries reckon a garage would open the cat and weld a pipe through for me for cheap?
